And then the author of the manga also actively shipping for some of the pairings. So it's all possible And then we have the sister series Yuriyuri with lots of one short of actual couples. the first showing what Yui and Kyouko probably will be like if they are separated from each other early and grew up with their childhood personality

The series does not have any "actual couples". It stays true to its title, so all the relationships are rather "loose" and I doubt that we'll get a canon couple. The only couple that has a chance to ever become official is SakurakoxHimawari (the rest is...stuck in love polygons which are the main source of comedy) - they get quite a lot of quality interactions in the manga. If you compare the anime to the manga then the anime even increased the yuri-level a bit because it added anime-original KyokoxAyano and KyokoxYui (but mostly KyokoxAyano) stuff.

Just so everyone knows, the 2 new character albums (Ayano and Chitose) are available. Had a listen and somehow feel like the quality has somewhat degraded from the first half of the character album collection. There was one song that I potentially thought about keeping for my iTunes (Ayano's A-side), and the rest just didn't really appeal to me that much- they felt somewhat rushed to me.
Of course that's my own opinion, so give them a chance. I just feel as if these albums were nowhere near as strong as the Yui and Kyouko album days.

When you think of Chitose, what kind of descriptors pop up in your brain? It's probably ones that describe a girl who drifts off easily yet does really well when she needs to. "Oh wait Ms. Toyosaki, haven't you voiced a character like that before? That's right, Yui!" Without taking bias over liking Hirasawa Yui's character songs a lot more, I believe if Chitose's songs were more in that style rather than this odd mishmash of genres it would've worked a lot better. The ultimate problem with Chitose's album was: she talked TOO much. Might as well had a drama CD with some funky background music. Ayano's was better, but once again it didn't really fit her somewhat upbeat, yet tsundere ways. That's probably why I enjoyed Sakurako's album a lot; it played with both of her major traits and wasn't just made for the purpose of selling out the character. Bleh, babble babble yet again. Music is subjective and I hope everyone else has a better time with these new albums than I did.

Cool Number is really awesome. I have some trouble actually imagining Yui singing it, but it's a catchy, well performed song. Kyouko's songs are both great, but I didn't much care for Chitose's or Akari's. They weren't horrible or anything, but I'm not eager to put them on my iPod. Haven't actually listened to Ayano's or Sakurako's yet, I should get to that.
Just found this really cute picture I thought I'd share for those who haven't seen it.
