I don't want it to end at the lame looser excuse like "Well, we managed to get to Kansai, isn't it great?" (made it far more expressive than in original to underline the meaning) Spoiler for Translation:

Definitely I hope the show will delve into Asuka more in the near future. That and also the other side of Kumiko (her sister and Shuuichi).

Episode 5:
Ah, the Nationals. It's serious business so I do expect the competition to be intense. I like Hazuki's fighting spirit this episode though as she has that positive energy. Looks like everyone practiced hard for their performance. Taki has a lot of responsibility for this group and I'm impressed by the way he is leading everyone. The performance was good, liked how they used some of the montage scenes from season 1 I'm so proud of Kitauji school!

Bravo! Episodes like these help remind me that this is ultimately a show about a band working hard to aim for the top. I enjoy "team competitions" like these because of the solidarity and unity it can bring. The animation, especially during the performance with the lighting and had movements on instruments, was really impressive.
... Watching Kumiko anxiously play with her toes was also nice... |

At first i though they were going to reused the entire concert from season 1, but i am glad there was some new scenes in the later half as they played the entire piece. The cymbal girl was rocking the performance as the random side character this episode lol.

Ahhh man this was really good, this is what we really need! a nice episode filled with music, with feelings, and the nationals which is the most important plot device in this series.
Personally I have a relationship of love/hate with Kyoani thanks to how many times they fucked up and how many times they nailed it but thanks to these kind of episodes I start to have hope in this studio again. What an amazing episode, glad that the story didn't went through another little arc filled with drama, I was missing these kind of performance since season 1. Kyoani found a way this time, and I'm glad they did it. |

Not surprised that they put in the effort to record a new version of the performance. The comparisons should be interesting.
Glad that they showed the entirety of that piece being played, too. Somewhere along the line the old memories of doing that sort of thing kicked in. |

Episode 5 is a 5/5. I can play that performance over and over and never get bored. Reina and Mizore's solos, Asuka actually kinda being honest for once, and Reina telling Kumiko that she will play for her were all awesome moments. Mizore's smile at the end was also sweet.

I wasn't sure they would rerecord the song for this performance (especially when we didn't even hear the full song in the first season), but they did and somehow it sounded even better. With this as a precedent, I'm fully expecting the Nationals performance to be both songs fully played/animated. One other thing, it was nice to hear from Azusa, and I'm not surprised Rikka isn't going to the Nationals (from a storytelling perspective), but I really hope we actually see her properly before the end of the season. So far we have a flashback, a phone call, and a mostly-out-of-frame shot; I'd like her (and Aoi, and Mamiko?) to visit Kumiko before the performance, or even go watch it. |
