The paying consumers are usually people who are older than that. You can't expect middle- or highschoolers to have that much money to buy that many cd's or discs.

As for the highschool settings, it's the most romanticized time of most people's youth. So of course you will find many works with those settings.

I remember the "I'll never forgive you!" line that was hated on the "worst shounen cliche" thread on MangaUpdates and I bet it was reused since Dragon Ball.

There are even times when the best studios will badly animate a close up of somebody's mouth saying important words. Makes me glad I would go to American animation school since I will learn more at American animation school than Japanese animation school.
Oh yeah forgot about that as well. In general things just look stale and lifeless when close up, face shot conversations are going on in anime.

If you want to watch an anime that's exceptionnal with the mouth animation cuts, try watching some of Kou Matsuo's works (and I even plan to watch his newest work called Valvrave the Liberator, to see the characters' interactions standing from the others). The characters appearing in those works have mouths that move realistically being akin to real life's counterparts, or so I heard.

Hm, sounds interesting if you've got a list of what works specifically I'd like to know. I did a quick search of a few of the stuff he has directed or been involved in and it seems like typical stuff so far.

Leave two people alone in a room and could miracles happen.

It makes one think that every characters are potential to have sex with anyone that is left alone with them even with the same sex.

The worst possible thing, not about the anime themselves but licensing:

English dubs of Japanese songs.

Also, excessive singing. I get it, singing. You don't have to sing everything though! THIS ISN'T DISNEY!

And most of the time, the English dubs for the songs are awful anyway.

I hate the huge amount of low-quality garbage that gets produced every year.
But that's something to hate about every entertainment medium, not simply anime, so whatever.

What, even "Kouji can swim in the sky/ he can fly beneath the sea/ in his robot man, Mazinger Zee"? (although truth be told, the only Mazinger show I've seen is the 2009 one)

Sempai, Sensei, Onii-san, Onee-sama etc...

Calling your girlfriend or boyfriend with these titles and not using their first name. Why? In school, I guess but even when outside school or alone together? Is it cute?

That does seem a bit awkward, now that I think about it.

Still, I can't think of any "going steady" couples in anime like that. I mean, a pairing that are basically confirmed.

What examples of them do you have?

Could be, although the only example I can think of that fits is from a non-anime show. Specifically, Kamen Rider Double.

Spoiler for Kamen Rider Double romance:
