Holy Christ, this movie compltely blew my expectations out of the water. There is only one word to describe it: epic! And I'm not one to use this word lightly. I loved everything from start to finish. I hadn't realized how much I missed my DBZ with lolis until now.
The transformation sequences were glorious, the music was great, and the fights were amazingly animated and choreographed. So, so awesome. Plus, Fate-chan was super adorable as always <3333 Definitely looking forward to the next movie. Not until 2012? NOOOOOO!!

Pretty sure it's intentional considering their hair color and hair style. Plus the fact that they're grouped together. Quote:

Speaking of next movie, WOW. I can't imagine how they'll up the battles in that one. How freakin' amazing will the cartridge system be now? Or when Nanoha fires w/ the cartridges for the first time. It'll make me jizz in my pants. |

Magical Therapist Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st completed!
Alright all kidding aside, I definitely feel after my viewing of the movie that it was done pretty well, considering the material they had to work with. They did well to alleviate some of the glaring flaws of the original, but still certain flaws remain. However, due to the time constraints of the movie, many of those flaws could not be corrected, such as the situation with the family. So I won't pick on that. There were two things that once again disappointed me though, and that was how Precia never got a last stand of any sorts, and how Chrono was once again pushed to the aside with basically none of his abilities shown (Though they gave him a little more in the scene where he stopped Nanoha and Fate from fighting). Oh well. I always wanted Chrono to have a more integral role in this series, but that's a lost cause. Just like how I always wanted Yuuno to have more of a role. I think it's obvious at this point that they hate guys in Nanoha universe. The most disappointing thing about the movie though was definitely Precia not getting her last stand. It feels like a waste to have such a powerful antagonist never to get her last moments. Oh well. I rate this movie an 8.5/10.

I guess the whole point was Precia was very sick, albeit still strong enough to beat up on some TSAB goons. And well, time constraints. It would have been more capable of working in the series.

It was indeed a waste to not have Precia do anything different. Sure she may have lost in her condition, but it would go with her spiteful nature of making everyone else miserable to get her "wish". Hell, she might have attacked Fate just for the hell of it. >.>

I do wish Precia did something at least. My boyfriend complained about that too. And the way the last half hour was essentially plot-filled. Kind of bugged him, as before the mix of action and plot was good for him. But I got him to watch it, and he liked it, so here's hoping the second movie is as awesome for him as the second season was for me (relative to the first movie/season).
Loved the movie. Absolutely loved it. I couldn't have loved it more, really. It was amazing in every sense of the word. I liked Nanoha, but the first season was always... a bit bland, as far as action went. I liked the characters, and the potential action, but what was shown wouldn't have been enough if I had wanted action. After seeing the action in this one... I'm both scared and thrilled at the thought of the next movie and it's action. Scared because... after seeing the first movie, I don't think I'll really get into the action of the other seasons. :P And thrilled because the first movie easily pumped the action in the first season up to twice what it was originally, likely more. If the second movie doubles the second seasons level of combat... I'll be really giddy. The final battle's (Nanoha vs. Reinforce, Cast vs. Defense Program) should at least be much better. |

Noo....they don't. Compared to nearly every other female-focused action-oriented series, the Nanoha-verse LOVES it's male characters. It's obvious they're just as capable as their female counterparts...but the story isn't ABOUT them (because guys get the shine...*everywhere else* in action anime), so they're not going to have crucial roles. Nanoha manages to focus on it's female characters without shoving "Girl Power!!111" down my throat, or making it's males ineffective weaklings. (Just because they DON'T fight, doesn't mean they CAN'T.) And Precia's ending was perfect. If she'd fought back against them, it would've been just to be a typical villain. No, her leaving (despite Fate's plea for her not to) was the last necessary thing for her to do to drive home the point that she never got it. When Alicia was still alive, she put her work in front. When she created Fate, she refused to accept the new chance she had. Over the course of the movie, she never realized what was most important, and always wanted things her way--she went out on that note, and I'm happy about that. |

The overhype dulled the impact of the movie to me. Let's just say that I have seen other animated movies before and those had fighting scenes that induced more OOOMPH to me and I am of the opinion that big explosions good fight choregraphy does not make, I think of Kara no Kyoukai, Sword of the Stranger and Cowboy Bebop when I think epic fight scenes (which bring me to a discussion with Space in IRC about why flight eventually dull the combat choregraphies).
It's not a bad retelling of the first season, and it shows what happen when you give the series the budget it should have, but the hype around the movie made it less epic than I expected it. (which made me glad I don't hang around in Haruhi subforums as much as I used to back in 2006-2007 because I am about to watch The Disappearance movie in the next days). Overall, 7. |

DVD booklet, has some info on those doing the commentary. Nothing too major or interesting.
It's incomplete but I'll add in stuff as I translate. Spoiler for Big Image:
Movie DVD booklet Intro to the Commentary Members [The Movie 1st] is the story of the meeting between Takamachi Nanoha and Fate Testarossa. The [StrikerS] members will be in charge of commentary! Subaru Nakajima (19) CV: Saitou Chiwa Currently a Fire Sergeant/Leading Private with the Harbor/Bay Security Forces'. (alt tran: coast guard) When she was young, she was rescued by Nanoha after getting trapped in an airport fire and thereafter she aimed to become a Rescue specialist herself. She then joined [Mobile Six] and became a student of Nanoha, after the decommissioning of Mobile Six she fulfilled her goal/dream by joining the Special Rescue Squad/Team. When on the job is she completely professional, but privately around her friends she’s the same/merry as always. Teana Lanster (20) CV: Nakahara Mai An Enforcer/Commissioned Officer with Headquarters. Has been with Subaru since their time at Training School and until the decommission/demobilization of Mobile Six, has always been paired/partnered with Subaru in the same team. Was the leader of the [Forward Team] which consisted of Subaru, Erio and Caro. Lately, she has been unusually easygoing (alt trans: easy to get involved with). It’s probably thanks to the influence Subaru, Caro and the entire Nakajima family has had, but she herself doesn’t quite know/recall how it happened. Erio Mondial (14) CV: Marina Inoue Works at the Remote/Frontier Nature Conservation Corps as a dragon rider Knight. Fate is his guardian, and has a sibling like relationship with Caro. Recently has been increasingly showing off to Caro, but it seems Caro enjoys it, Fate and those who looked after him first are smiling rather knowingly and thinking/wondering if that’s all there is to it or if there’s more. (bad trans: Jap text: 近頃ますますキャロに振り回される日々が続いているが、キャロが楽しそうなのと、フェイトをはじめ見守って くれる人達がにこにこしちるので、まあこれでいいのかなと思ったり思わなかったり。) Lately has gone a growth spurt (alt trans: has grown in height a lot). Caro ru Lushe CV: Mikako Takahashi Is a member at the Remote/Frontier Nature Conservation Corps. and work as a dragon summoner. Has left her beloved familiar/dragon Fried at home today. ??? (Will mainly move for Erio and Lutecia) ??? (Need help in this translation: Japn text: 節度を守った(主にエリオとルーテシアに対して発動する)ノリとボケには切れ味が増しつつある 。) Because Erio is stealing her share of height (according to her), her height has remained the same (alt trans: she hasn’t grown in height at all) She worries that the young Vivio is going to be taller than her soon and it makes extremely worried/self conscious. Fate T. Harlaown (23) CV: Mizuki Nana An active duty Enforcer for the Bureau. Just like Nanoha, she is participating as a guest commentator as she had been involved in the incident (depicted in the movie). Is pretty busy looking back at her memories, and is embarrassed/shy about her past self. Takamachi Vivio (10) CV: Kaori Mizuhashi Takamachi Nanoha’s only daughter, currently a fourth grade elementary student at a Magic Academy. Gets along with the Forward team and everyone else. Knows Nanoha and Fate’s personality very well, enthusiastically/cheerfully participating in the commentaries. Takamachi Nanoha (23) CV: Yukari Tamura Currently 23 years old and currently active duty/working as a magic teacher/instructor for Air Combat Tactics. 14 years ago, she and her best friend Fate fondly recall how they met for the first time, participating in commentary. (Note: I can't believe I have to do this. God damn it people 親友 【しんゆう】 = shinyuu (n) close friend; bosom (old, intimate) friend; buddy; crony; chum; (P). I can't change what's written in the goddamn booklet. No it doesn't say lover, wife, fellow co parent, etc.)
