As in he watched until the OP started. I'm sure he didn't think of it as ecchi(Unless he watches past the OP & everything and he didn't). Plus he saw several anime stuff before HOTD.

He won't watch stuff subbed, so Fate/Zero is going to be a LONG while. I guarantee my Dad will not like Death Note.

Couldn't get the guy into Monster either.

He also does this to any thing foreign, he will not watch it unless it is in English or released in our theaters.

We played the Cowboy Bebop movie up to where Spike shoots the guy(In English of course) in the store. I quote "This is stupid as shit". Then turns it. He watched the first few minutes of Highschool of the Dead(In English) then he turned it. He walked in on my & my bro while the Code Geass OP was playing & he'd mock the OP with his singing. He also walked in while we were watching where Lucy in Elfen Lied was rampaging through the lab doing her thing. He said it was stupid too, and got & left. Some other moments, but this are the ones I remember.

He hates it so much that he won't even let me watch it on the big TV(In 1080 P), when he naps in his chair. I even told him I'd watch it in English & skip the OP completely. He wouldn't budge. He's still a cool guy though(I'm an entertainment junkie of American shows too) too despite all this, but still it baffles me how he'll watch anything other than anime. I'll get him to try Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt in English if it ever gets on Netflix or Youtube in English so we can watch on the TV. He likes trash humor, plus ridiculous action. I'll do the same for Black Lagoon. I'm not going to give up just yet.

His whole side is just like him, except my cousins. They're too blind to try the new anime because they think it wasn't as good as the old ones(90's stuff) facepalm.jpg.

So now anime is restricted to my room on Netflix, & my computer when he is not home.

My mom doesn't mind me watching anime. She doesn't like it though. I remember me & my bro were watching Claymore on Netflix one time, and my mom was asking if they were men or not.

My brother & I have always watched anime together though.
o.O Dad almost sounds more xenophobic than "anti-anime". Here's a test. Are you able to watch "Das Boot" in the original German as the gods intended?

I've seen this behavior before though - its very visceral and I won't pretend to grok that kind subconscious level rejection of "things outside the comfort zone". No one else in the world seems to have issues with subtitled films the way a large percentage of people in the U.S. do...

I'm pretty sure both of my parents gave up on me when I started seriously watching anime in high school.

I see that I commented here in '09 a couple of pages back... I forgot to mention something important there - that my dad first made me watch anime, lol. He took me to a Ghost in the Shell movie in theaters when we were in Tokyo and I hated it, cause I didn't understand Japanese (there were no subs, since it was in Japan) nor anime then. He also rented us some Mobile Suit Gundam (the original) VHS's which I thought were fun. And then, you know, I got into anime for real and we watched some stuff together, like Kuroshitsuji, Natsume Yuujin-cho, Gundam 00 or the occasional Gintama

Nope. But, guess what? They don't criticize me at all. They just say that they are not interested in it when I mention it.

My parents don't mind what I watch. As long as it isn't disgusting like hentai or porn.

My dad watched Death Note. He found it in a tracker where he is part of the staff. He said he really enjoyed it, but that TV series are more his thing.
