As for the VF-19 and the VF-22, the show's time line is 2059 (correct me if I'm wrong), and IIRC Project Super Nova (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Super_Nova), which was the project that developed the YF-19 and YF-21 prototypes seen in Macross Plus was intiiated around 2040. The VF-17, now designated the VF-171 in Macross Frontier was already in service by 2040, heck its shadow was featured in Macross Plus even. So what I'm saying ishope is not lost. We may still see the VF-19 and the VF-22 in action.

An answer the questions on is this related to other macross series. All Macross series are related, there is no alternate universe for Macross like there is in Gundam. The only Macross series that Macross F does not use as a source is Macross II, because Macross II takes place 80years(I think) after the end of the first saga. So 40 or 50 years later from this series. On the same point, knowing the whole background isn't needed to understand what is going on. They will explain it no doubt over the course the show. Knowing the full history will just let you know whats going on alot sooner =) |

To me, the only big hurdles wit the Macross timeline is the animation crew trying to make older technology new again.
Though I think they did an AMAZING job with Macross Zero in that department. But the oldschool Macross designs really do look very antiquated and I'm sure they'll have to play that out for modern audiences. And so far, I have no major qualms about Macross Frontier's portrayal of the technology. |

Here are a few screencaps from the Frontiers of Macross tv special. The facial expressions on those guys watching Kawamori work with Lego's is priceless.
Shoji Kawamori and the process of designing Valkyries. Behind the scenes look at Satelight's CGI work for Macross Frontier. The head honcho himself. The HORY FROATING HEAD. |
