Also, the rearrangement of the scenes allow for more linear storytelling so no complaints on my end. |

Just gets better. The space battle worked. The ace pilot walking past the self-appointed star worked. The mass-converter funeral worked (especially since it made you think of Eiko's fate, whatever it will end up being). The computer-geek fangirl started well but was a bit much in the final scene. However, she still works for me. We'll see where it all goes. The masked captain (Oohara Sayaka) works triumphantly, for me.
I liked this episode enough that I made a characters/seiyuus page. Pics of twelve characters and their seiyuus, with a bit of info about each seiyuu. Lots of top names, from Sakurai Takahiro through Koyasu Takehito, to Oohara Sayaka. Arai Satomi (Kuroko in Railgun) plays the bear-nursemaid (a concept from Maron Zimmer Bradley's Endless Universe). Shizuku is played by Suzaki Aya (Tamako in Tamako Market, the paralyzed goth-loli in Brynhildr). And Eiko was/is played by a former Takarazuka men's roles actress who was also a finalist for Miss Universe Japan in 2012.

A pretty good follow up episode.
I really want to call this "Attack on Titan in Space" because that's exactly what this feels like. Nagate feels a lot like Eren, from his rage at the Guana to his inaptitude in the classroom, even if he is excellent on the field. Also, like Eren, he has no idea when a girl (or he/she) is interested and he also has foreboding nightmares next to trees. Go figure. The girl acquaintance and the he/she are nice characters and are really trying to help Nagate get around despite him being a fish out of water. One thing I'm glad AoT got rid of, but this series decided to keep, was the overly cliche, worn out high school bullying schtick. You'd think after a thousand years in the future, the bullies would have come up with something new. In fact the whole school thing is a bit tired and I know it serves to show how much of an outsider Nagate is, but it just feels overplayed. I'm much more interested in what the Gauna really are and what they can do. Like the Titans from AoT, no one knows much about them, why they're here and what they want. We're finding out more about this world, from how it works to how the people survive. I still wish they would explain this human photosynthesis thing a little more since pushing it under the rug of "genetic engineering" doesn't do it for me. Also, only one meal a week? They are missing out on so much. Also, what happens if they happen to be without light for a long period of time, or get stuck in space? Photosynthesis does have its drawbacks. The white haired arrogant Kunato reminds me of Jean, but less likable. I have a feeling that he's going to cause trouble for Nagate, however it will probably blow up in his face. Guy's like that usually learn their lesson through hardship. So, either Kunato and Nagate will end up as friends/rivals or Kunato is going to continue to be an arrogant prick and eventually get himself killed. The scene with the girl getting eaten in the beginning was rather surprising. With the anger she was having and the backstory I thought for sure she would get saved and then further develop to become friends with Nagate. However, instead she got eaten and died of wasted potential. Well, it looks like they are setting up the rematch with the Gauna. The ace pilots have been called in, and that hacker girl also looks to be interesting. Nagate is going to be advising a lot of people, however, I have a feeling that the aces are going to get trashed when the go out there, having never fought a real Gauna. Again, a really go episode and I'm interested in where this will go from here. I'm suspicious of the higher ups and the captain (I have a feeling she knew there was a Gauna on that ice rock, which is why she sent Nagate), and we'll have to see what conspiracies will unfold. I won't call this a copy of Attack on Titan since I think this came first. However, I will call it a cash grab on the part of the studio. Now if Nagate is revealed to be able to turn into a Gauna later, than the kid gloves come of and I will unhesitatingly call it a "copy cat".

Not a big fan of the Gauna's initial appearance (yet another tentacle monster ) but the transformation was much more interesting.
I wasn't too suprised that the cutie bit it ... the bleak outlook of this show just seems set up for no remorse. I'll agree that the CG does capture that nicely, but I still can't get over some of the facial expression in CG. Maybe after a few more episodes. They have introduced a ton of new characters this ep & the hacker girl seems to be the most interesting. Given their lack of reluctance to kill of the cute pilot in ep 2, I gotta think at least some of the aces are going to bite it when the monster returns. I'm not really sold on the Gauna yet (zomg, have to kill with special spear in a sci fi series?), but curious enough to keep watching so far ... |

Eh, first time I've seen this compared to AoT. Sidonia's nothing like AoT, at least atmosphere-wise, and Nagate not as quick to anger as Eren (thank god). Not going to deny the harem-ish aspects though. And as for Kunato, if this were shounen, maybe. You'll see.

1. I'm half-expecting to see the gauna turn into whatever it eats, or at least be influenced by it. I'm not totally convinced that Eiko is gone gone.
2. I once knew a biochemist who talked about giving humans photosynthetic hair. But that would be most useful on a planet with a sun. In the depths of space, not so much, except under lamps (that require energy). 3. In episode 1, especially, I accepted the comparative expressionlessness of people as something that made them feel alien, as people from far in the future would probably seem to us (and us to them). But interpreting it as just being poor CG also works, lol.

She should've shook his hand...All of this could've been avoided if she only shook his hand...That's what you get for being stubborn I guess.
What did that skinsuit do to them? Those girls looked that something suggestive was happening to them. Even Tanikaze gave a suggestive reaction to the skinsuit...XD Btw, Tanikaze's a beast. The dude went apeshit on that Gauna. But, the aftermath really had him looking like a pussy. Still, I can understand why he's acting that way, shock, trauma & whatnot. Izana's definitely into him. Se we already know which gender she'll become. Kunato's got a massive ego, it felt so good to see him get his hopes up, just for those elite pilots to walk straight passed him. All in all, decent episode. The action was good & the progression was steady. They even threw in some shipping...lol

The suits were said to have built-in catheters that find their own way into your ureter to drain urine when you're in the suit. We saw Tanikaze reacting as his slid in, then we saw all the girls reacting. Gross but semi-concealed fanservice.

To be honest I was shifting rather uncomfortably in my chair at the description even before they showed everyone squirming.

Now, I think this show is going a different direction, but at first glance I can see why they call this "Attack on Titan in Space". Think of the premise overall. You have humanity driven to the point of extinction and trapped in a secluded city for fear of giant monsters that hunt, destroy, and eat them at the exclusion of all else. We have a society where people have become slightly complacent because they haven't seen the monsters in a hundred years, and then one day, everything changes. Several teenagers are trained to hunt and kill these monsters in order to protect the human race. The settings and circumstances have changed, but you have to agree that the general premise is similar. Now while Nagate is different from Eren, I do have to say that the two do share a few qualities, including being completely clueless at times, having amazing force of will when going against a Gauna/Titan, having nightmares next to trees (for some reason ), and even yelling out the monsters' name in rage.

It's not limited to astronauts by the way. Fighter pilots also have urine bottles/packs and special powders that soak up urine. It should be explained when they explain the third gender.

Even in today's world there's the dilemma of food production and consumption. It takes 10 lbs of corn feed to produce 1 lbs of beef. Yes, people would argue lb per lb, meat has higher nutritional values once digested vs corn, but still you'd feed a lot of people with 10 lbs of corn. Same with some fish farming, it takes the same conversion when it takes 10lbs of sardines to produce 1 lb of farmed Tuna. One-upping food on the chain takes resources and there's inefficiencies and loses on the way up. Just think the efficiency of getting your nutrition from 30 min in your tanning booth instead of a meal that took months to grow consuming even more light, water, fertilizer, etc. Quote:
Here the skinsuit has a Urethral catheter. It's a latex/rubber tube that's inserted into your urethra (the hole/conduct in your private parts where your pee comes out from, if you didn't know) and goes up to your bladder to collect your pee usually in a bag on this case the skinsuit. Here in SnK the suit just inserts one automatically, but the catheter is something actually used in medicine & hospitals today, either for people with disabilities or old people that can't pee or don't have bladder control and in hospitals when you're gonna have a surgery that's gonna take a long time they insert one so your bladder doesn't explode or you start leaking. As for how it feels guess how it feels to get a tube inserted into your private parts... (I had it a few times for surgeries, but not gonna spoil the experience for you ) |

SnK is now the acronym for two series that are also somewhat similar. Quite popular it is.
