Gotta say, Ranka really is such a cute kouhai to Sheryl here, she's very likeable off the bat. Wish I could say the same for Nanase and their cohorts though. I don't expect them to go gaga for Sheryl but the very least they could do was try to be friendly, instead of giving such a horrible impression. Even in the series, Nanase overreacted the first time she comes in contact with Sheryl (Ep. 8). Well...I guess that's how it is when the object of your affections looks up to someone else..

Ranka is so cute in the manga! I like she's adorable but doesn't come off as loli as in the TV series. Just a little underdeveloped. She's lesbian catnip, can you blame Nanase?

Nanase redeems herself, though. When she bravely supports Sheryl (with Ranka) in that concert while they are under attack.

It's possible they're trying to get in under the radar. >> Copyright law though is weird, there are some cases where someone else can own different rights to the same title, kinda like what Joss did to get Serenity made when Fox still owned the TV rights for Firefly.

It's also possible they'll just cut the word "Macross" (or leave it in Kanji) from it, and so long as they don't show the same mecha from SDF: Macross they'd presumably be safe. They own the likeness of the VF-1 Valkyrie, not the VF-25 Messiah, and they might own poor Minmei, but not Sheryl Nome. Speculation though, because copyright law is crazy.

But they listed the Hayato Aoki manga...that's got a VF-1J in a VERY important place...

Well, let's see if WB chooses to just as much of a bunch of dickish bungholes like Harmony Gold was in regards to the Macross license. I'd actually welcome the chance to buy decently subtitled official DVD releases of Frontier.

Hm, I also fear that this may further delay the release of the next BattleTech game, as the guys at Piranha Bytes will probably have to deal with this new license holder. Unless they exclude Mechs like the Marauder and Warhammer, etc.

They sold the movie rights to WB. HG still has the rights to the series, though.

Spoiler: She first shows up in Frontier (for some odd reason, is referred to as "Pioneer" in this chapter) as a hotshot performer, but Alto's about to prove himself as a moderating factor when it comes to her attitude. LOL, first encounter with Ranka... like she's witnessing a reenactment of Snow White, before it turns out they're not alone, as Alto's watching them, too. Later, Sheryl shows her soon-to-be imoto what it takes to be a star: "KEEP SINGING!" __________________
