In regards to this, as well as an earlier discussion, I just noticed something on Serebii in regards to Mega Mewtwo that will apply to this:

Mega Mewtwo X is only available with Mewtwonite X in Pokémon X. Item can be traded over.

Mega Mewtwo Y is only available with Mewtwonite Y in Pokémon Y. Item can be traded over.

So there you go. The X and Y forms of Charizard are no more exclusive than any legendary is.

Yes, but since you get the stone at the same time as picking the starter itself, that makes restarting for it (in the case of friends doing the standard "trade all starters" thing) much quicker. And, theoretically, it shouldn't be any harder to get a random to trade it than it would be to trade a legendary, since both are limit 1 (as far as we know) and cannot breed.

Also, while Venusaur has been confirmed to only have 1 mega form... nothing's been said about Blastoise. Given his status as the Rival starter in Origins, it's very possible he has a Mega Y form that hasn't been shown yet (probably a red shaded one, like how Charizard X is blue).

Wonder how much Megazard X's attack stat is going to be now.

Tough Claws + STAB Flare Blitz as well as Outrage, in addition to access to Dragon Dance makes me drool and question whether I want a MegaVenusaur as much.

Must raise myself an Adamant/Jolly Charmander now for the time being.
