If the original version says: モルモット (morumotto) then that translates as "guinea pig" in English, not "marmot", which is マーモット (maamotto)

Given these words, a mistranslation would be easy.

"Sacrificial animal" would probably work fine, as it retains the meaning.
I would go with 'sacrificial animal' or 'stepping stone'. The first one's better than 'guinea pig"anyways.

The original text says "実験体" (test subject) with "モルモット" (guinea pig) as the furigana.

Guinea pig it is. Been translating from chinese since I'm at work...

EDIT: For further clarifications, remember how Telestina basically referred to Child Errors as 'pigs', yeah. I want to maintain that crudeness.

Scans from Vol.7 from railgun SS2 were released. (Hopefully translations won't take long)

I added the illustrations on bakatsuki,
but it was in hurry, so I messed up the file names (incorrect page number),
does somebody know how to rename an uploaded file?

So I was thinking. Maybe Gremlin needs Touma alive to save the world or something. NT2 was to test him and his faction.

But then the "Gremlin" name would make no sense. Unless Gremlin is a cover for the real name/objective.

Gremlin means anti-science right?( in the cabals name term)

Either way like Kanzaki said. If they wanted to kill him Mjolnir could've easily done it.

They were probably testing him for something.

Unlikely, they were willing to risk destroying the world just to greet him.

Whether it was actually doable or not, a magician would have their goal carved into themselves in Latin...they would have a magic name. But she could not feel anything like that from that Throwing Hammer.
It had such great firepower, but it did not use it to directly attack Academy City.
Dropping Radiosonde Castle on Academy City was likely the overall goal, but it had unhesitatingly blown away a third of the fortress.
Mjolnir destroyed 1/3rd of the fortress with one blast. Which is 6.6 kilometer blast radius. That power alone was more than enough for AC by himself.

True, but at that time she thought their goal was to attack Academy City. When in truth the whole point of using Radiosonde was just to find out if Kamijou Touma is still alive, but if that was simply the case they wouldn't try to drop this giant hunk of rock down on his head.

What if they were testing him out or something. They could've easily killed him knowing where he is and the fact that unlike others he was their objective. Or maybe they are remnant Fiamma supporters.

I don't think they tried to kill him... but I also don't think they want his help (or they would have tried an approach that didn't involve potentially wrecking his city.)

Looking at what is known about gremlins (the "real life" myth) they are about random sabotage and destruction rather than a constructive purpose, directed at technology itself, not at a specific person or organization. Or at least, that's the impression I got about them.

Since Touma ended being the only one responsible for defeating Fiamma in the end they decided to first see if he survived.Radiosonde was searching for him all over the world and Academic City just hapened to be the last place to search.

Anyway, expecting too see more things in NT3. Probably Beverly will appear if not maybe Mikoto will meet with New Light again.

Changing the topic, the Freshmen were created with the purpose of fighting against Grenlim? If so then maybe Umidori will have to be near Touma since he is now the main target of this new organization.

The way I see Gremlin is this- After defeating a big organization (RCC), sometimes you solve the problem, but sometimes you end up creating many little problems.

When it's between two big organizations, they have rules and agreements and plenty of dos and don'ts but most importantly they keep people in line; there are political reasons not to start throwing nukes at each other the first chance you get.

But once you topple the big organization, all the little ones start coming out of the woodworks, and not all of them are reasonable.

I believe that's what the Gremlins are, the radical new group that doesn't play by the rules and just throw the world into chaos.
