I see they're trying to be more faithful to the manga now. I kinda wonder what's the point. The way they adapted the first 18 volumes can't even be called adaptation as it was mostly just anime-original shit. Now, after years of fucking up, they suddenly want to be faithful? What the fuck? It's a little to late for that, I'd think.
That been said, the pacing is really rushed so they're still making some changes and condensing a lot of stuff to accommodate for the fast pacing. Some characters have been cut completely. For example, Rikuson and Taishiji Shigi were supposed to be part of the team and stay in the ryokan with everyone, but they're nowhere to be found in the OVA. There are other minor changes too but I guess minor stuff doesn't really matter much. In any case, these are the most boring chapters from the Himiko arc, imo. It only starts getting good after Hakufu comes back to Nanyo and meets [spoiler]. Unfortunately that probably will happen at the end of this set of OVAs (I think they're 3 episodes in total) as a cliffhanger.
