Any time really.

Aside form the 95 episode Kenshin TV series, there is a 4-part OAV set 10 years before the series (best to watch after first TV season), a Movie (Anytime), and Seisouhen/Reflections, which is best watched after, but to some, not at all

I´ve also recently started watching i´m at 59, and i will watch all the TVseries first, then the movie, then OVA1 and at last OVA2(which i think is obvious).

Just watch it the way the were released, then you will not miss anything...

Timeline wise, the first OVA is 10+ years before the TV Series. The second movie (Requiem of Patriots) happens after episode 60, and the third movie (Reflections) is several years after episode 95. Honestly I don't think it matters when you watch it, but I always liked to watch it in the order it happened (timeline wise).

The only problem with watching it in order of the timeline is that the first OVA is very historical, throwing out names of groups and people without any explaination of who they are. It makes the OVAs earier to follow if you know some of the history as it is picked up through the first two story arcs.

So the movie happens after episode 60?
Did it get released at that time also, or did they release it after the series?

if you go here, and then click the yellow question mark, it gives a detailed explanation on the difference between the tv series/ova/movie, what they are, and also the suggested order to view them in. ^_^

Its never wrong to watch it the way it were released
Cause they did of course make it so that it will be good to watch it that way

Its like if a movie were done, then a second movie were released 2 years after(but this movie takes act some years before the first movie), then you should of course watch the first movie first... duh, no matter how many years before the second movie takes act, it was still released after the first, so that makes it pretty obvious to watch the first, then the second.

Plot wise:

OVA 1
TV series 1st and 2nd arc
Movie (anywhere in between really)
TV series 3rd arc (sucks big time IMO.)
OVA 2

This is how I'd do it:

TV series 1st and 2nd arc
OVA 1
Re-watch TV series 1st and 2nd arc and also read the manga
OVA 2
Die in anguish and unnecessary heart-broken-ness
Read the manga again and be somewhat relieved

;D You'd understand the "die" part if you watched ova 2, and if you wtached ova 1 you'd be bored watching the Movie, and TV series 3rd arc I try to avoid...

But seriously speaking, do watch the OVA 1 *AFTER* watching the first two arcs of tv series for maximum enjoyment and appreciation.

my friend watched the ovas before the series, and I for one didn't get through the first season of kenshin before watching the ova (though i did know of saitou and such beforehand). My friend ended up liking the ova much more than the series, this of course is very understandable given that the ovas were done in a style and mood much different from the series. I found pleasure in both, but did think the ova was much better done and much more satisfying. I watched a horrific version of the movie and has subsiquently refused to watch it in it's dvd form.

aflipguy, you missed one movie. It's called Requiem of Patriots. It would be a shame to miss a Kenshin movie. Not sure if you didn't see it or just didn't list.

The first OVA is by far my favorite thing of Kenshin. Even though the series is still a lot better than most other anime series (IMO)

yep, the Movie

It doesn´t really care when you watch it, but it was released between season2 and 3.

A purist's attitude to this would be to watch in the order presented in the manga:

TV, first two arcs
OVA 1

And then to stop. The movie, last third of the TV series and second OVA are all non-manga and hence not the 'true' story of events. However, the second OVA still has much merit, so long as you ignore the made-up new ending

It may be a stupid question, but is kenshin manga completed or is it still in process?
