I watched about two episodes of this and moved on to other series. There wasn't nothing there that really made want to watch it over the other series I was also juggling at the time.
I then caught up with some series and decided to finish this one off, couldn't believe the gem that I put off while being disappointed from other series. 1st Story - Horrible animation, interesting story 2nd Story - Better animation, mediocre story 3rd Story - INCREDIBLE animation and story. I read some of the post here hyping up the last story but didn't think it could really turn the series around in just 3 episode but I was horribly wrong and must say it does live up to hype. I don't treat any anime like the second coming or anything but if I did it would be this series would be one of my choices just for the last three episodes alone. They could have just made the whole series just consisting of those 3 episodes and that would be enough. Quote:

Is there any point in asking?
The quantity and quality of comments in this thread make the answer quite clear. The overall favorite is Bakeneko, and the second fave is Tenshu Monogatari. (Though they are reversed in my personal preferences.) The worst, by unanimous declaration, is Yotsu ya Kaidan. While there were some interesting ideas in the framing of this story, they just didn't make up for the draggy pace and lack of originality. I would be honestly surprised if someone claimed that this arc was better than one of the other two. It's a shame that it was first because a lot of people watched the first arc and then didn't bother to see the two wonderful arcs that followed. Quote:

I absolutely hated Tenshu Monogatari. When it started raining flowers I wanted to gourge my eyes out. Bake Neko was unique, and the Kaidan was interesting, but I felt Kaidan really could have done without the fourth episode. As for the originality thing, Yotsuya Kaidan is a 300-400 year old story. Can't say I was expecting it to be bursting with originality. =p

Ayakashi ~ Samurai Horror Tales (aka Ayakashi ~ Japanese Classic Horror) has been picked up by Geneon.
Seems like they are going to release the second story arc first (Castle Tower Story, Tenshu Monogatari), then followed by the first story arc (Yotsuya Ghost Story). Quote:

Wow.
Incidentally, I was just downloading the whole series (because I decided to rewatch it without any snags); after I downloaded it, it got licensed! LOL! I don't really care about the other two arcs (although I loved the second one), but they should have released the third one first. I am so buying its DVD ... if there's something like that that will come out here in the Philippines. D:

Wait - so are they not actually releasing Bakeneko on R1 DVD? But they're doing the other two? What kind of screwed up nonsense is this? *fumes*
EDIT: Pardon me, LOL. I had a closer look, it is there - and geez, 24/7/06? That's alomst 2 months after hte other two. I wonder why.

Well, what do you know, it's a double post. I have to be annoying and obnoxious, however, because in case anybody missed it in the New Anime announcement thread in the Unaired forum....
Bakeneko is getting a sequel! And it'll be 12 episodes long! *dances around stupidly* Haha, it got the last episodes among the Ayakashi shows and now look. This new sequel will be called "Mononoke". The official site is here: http://www.mononoke-anime.com/ And best thing - same staff! It isn't the same without director Nakamura and designer Hashimoto... Director: Kenji Nakamura Character Design / Main Animation Director: Takashi Hashimoto Script: Michiko Yokote, Chiaki Konaka (!), Ikuko Takahashi, Manabu Ishikawa Art director: Takashi Kurahashi, Yumi Hosaka (?) Animation: Toei Animation And YES, Sakurai Takahiro is returning. C...Christmas has come early or something. Waha~! I can't wait to see what this will be like. Episodic? Tri-episodic? Whatever it is if it keeps up the quality of the original 2007 will undoubtedly be one of the best years in my life .

As happy as everyone here (including yours truly) is to see this news, I'd like to point out that the proper place for discussing this news is in the Mononoke thread.
