Wait for 1.11. That's the best advice you can get.

26-th of May in Japan, 16-th of July in Germany. No other release date has been confirmed yet.

Oh, and the DVD release will be the upgraded (hopefully final) version, 2.22. So no x.0x this time.

Not to generalize, but most ones I've seen that "condemn the ruin of Evangelion" on the Rebuild were expecting a pure shiny-recut of the series and cannot budge the fact it's an Elseworld version in comic book terms, except not as retarded.
Oh hah, a copypasta is also something I'd want to avoid. Though I doubt we'll have to worry about that.

I really hope that 2.0 gets a U.S. release date announced soon. I've heard that there might be some issues with the cost of licensing fees. I hope not. The most certain way to make something get pirated is if there is no other way to get it. And then all the rights holders lose out.

I like that they don't follow the same route as before.
Loved the anime series, even so I saw it pretty late.. only three years ago. So I'm very happy about 'Rebuild'. A less expressionistic ending would be appreciated, too XD
Since I'm so hyped about it, I just hope the films will meet my rather high expectations.
Don't know anything about USA\UK\EU release dates, but 2.22 will be out on DVD & BD on 25 of May in Japan. Date of the 3rd film yet to be announced

oops, did't see posts above. lol, sorry

Having an actual release date for the BluRay/DVDs is a good thing in my mind, but the nagging question now is whether or not the discs themselves will include SUBTITLES! Like Gundam Unicorn for example...

Not sure what you are asking here - Evangelion 2.0 is a sequel to Evangelion 1.0. It's the second part of the "Rebuild of Evangelion" tetralogy.

Evangelion 1.01 and 1.11 versions were DVD/Bluray releases that included some touch-ups to the theatrical release of Evangelion 1.0.

As was already said in the posts above, the version coming out in DVD/Blu-ray this month is already called 2.22. So it should be the final version, but who knows... they might release a 2.222 later on

Ohhh...okay. I guess I misunderstood at some point. I'll just wait for the box set. I think that will be the final revisions for all four movies.

Any experienced buyers would advise on ordering from amazon or cdjapan? Thinking of putting in an order online since it would be hard to secure a copy locally from where I am.

I really want to watch it even though I'll not be able to understand most of what's going on. xD

The 26th. Though it's already on the net, so someone clearly got it ahead of time.

No, it is not ahead of time.

It's promo DVD for press. It containes full movie and some bonuses, but that's not "it"

I just watched the movie. Great stuff.

Lots of changes from the series, but the point of these movies isn't to copy/paste the series anyway, so I have no complains. The movies stand quite well as is and it's all I ask them.

Can't wait for the next one, though it'll probably take a while.

----

By the way, anyone noticed that a ton of Kare Kano's music was used? o_O
Like, in almost every non-battle scene.
I was totally taken aback by this choice, but it works damn well. Kudos to Sagisu for not forgetting his wonderful work on this series

I don't know about Kare Kano, but there were at least one song from K-On!, "Tsubasa wo Kudasai" near the end of the movie. I thought the music fit the situation quite well, but the fact that was it was not an original piece was a bit of a let down. And the fact that I had already listened to that song about a thousand times doesn't help either...

As for the movie itself, I have mixed feelings. Generally, I thought it was good, mostly with graphics, fighting scenes, the new angels, etc. One thing I don't like was how they executed things about characters; I felt they were rushing about them. I was most disappointed with Asuka, of her scenes and how one dimensional she was depicted (Baka anyone?). Her entrance also lacked the impact she had during the original series, IIRC. Though, probably there just wasn't enough time to build up her personality, and left most things to people's prior knowledge of her. Lack of the new child in action was a bit disappointing as well. I surprised at how far the storyline was going. At one point I was like, 'Wait, is this the last movie?'. I can't hardly wait how the next movie is going to be about.
