Sakuga /MAD thread
What is Sakuga ?
Sakuga can be designed by animation frame per frame , meaning real animation Not still animation with boring loop Body animation and face animation are good example (good face animation not mouth looping) Sakuga/MAD are made by japanese fans (for what i know, maybe americans do their "sakuga" with their disney movie , i dont know) , most of the time so , they features some crazy good animations by really awesome animators wich gained their own style over the years (centuries ?) Kanada for example is a legend of 2d animation meaning he was a genius , pushing the philoshophy of Tezuka to an extend creating a new way of animation : the kanada style , those animations characteristics are simple : doing something stylished at most with few frames. Also there is others styles and philoshopy in japan like over framed animation , wich is more disney-ish like , you can check the early movies of Toei Doga (for example the movie with songoku ! or the white snake) d animation in japan is complex and with a multiple ramifications and styles The greatest animators of japan starts to be well know worldwide even if most of the time people speak about IMAISHI thinking he created everything about the style wich is funny because sometimes they never heard about kanada. Also some other great artist are for example mitsuo iso and of course K and Y . Yoshinari (You is well know for his technique of bakuhatsu animations , look at flcl ...) So i wanted to create a thread here to share some cool sakuga (even if i already saw a ton xd) Also this thread could help identify animators style and animes If i should speak of me , i'm a 2d animator and 2d indie creator movies What style i love ? Mostly realistic style , i enjoy stylished style as well in fact i can't decide for the moment xd. What are the legends in animations for me ? Mitsuo Iso (this guy have mastered the weight with few frames , meaning he masters the timing like crazy) Ichiro Itano (should i present this guy , seriously ? he created the first 3d effect battles and his missile circus is Magical) You Yoshinari : the legend who created with his brother the valkyries of VP (tri ace) , A great artist and a great animator , the dream! Kanada (Of course , He deserves more recognition) Nakamura , called by some as the great Master combat man or something like that , he proved that he is one the best for some awesome memorable battles , take a look at sword of the stranger's ending and you'll know what i'm talking about. And many others! Please pardon my english and if it already done then delete this thread attempt ! Also my infos can be totally wrong , so sorry if i post some mistakes , no need to flame. So i begin with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMXXotEHXx4

I have a feeling this thread will use a lot of Youtube links, so I would like to ask people not to use Youtube tags . A lot of them tend to be annoying for slower computers.
I guess I'll also contribute with a Nakamura Yutaka MAD. Can current shows be discussed in this thread? I wouldn't mind making GIFs for some of the shows I'm watching if it's for an animation thread. I'll be sure to use spoiler tags too. It seems to me like this season is perfect for starting an animation thread. I feel like I want to make GIFs for Magi and Chu2koi because I seem to be the most excited for those . |

That clip oceanblue was awesome
I saw it many times , i need to check darker than black and un-go now lol. It was cool to see star driver again. Hope nakamura will work on the movie seriously , the cubic explosions suits the anime so well Here is another one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g8t40gxJ88 Ps I noticed something cool in the japanese animation , especially the famous nakamura foots in the beginning of your clip The foots animation are animated in a delayed way of the background , meaning , the foot moves and then it's stopped in the time while the background is animated despite ... It's very interesting and pushing that further could give some neat effects.

I've been admiring this one of late:
I believe this is by Koji Morimoto. I especially like the dissolving person and almost watercolor faces in the backgrounds. Also anything that was featured in Robot Carnival is pretty damn good. This is a pretty timely thread as I've actually been working my way through some old 80's anime movies that I'm told are supposed to have been key animated by some of the masters as they were just reaching their peak. I hope to have more to contribute once I'm finally able to get around to some more. Also here's one from July 2012 that showcases some great action pieces. Lots of mecha too, which is just right up my alley naturally. |

Towards the end of the 2012 July vid, so many of those missile/laser spectacles. I know there's a proper term for it out there, but it escapes my mind atm.
All that comes to mind is just "Itazano missile" but a quick google search already proves that's not it. Damn thing's racking my brain >.<

I've edited my embeds into links now. I recommend adding said comment into the 1st post as well.
Here's another one: sakuga AMV June 2011 (contains scenes from last episode of AnoHana so beware of spoilers, there's also an awesome Steins;Gate sequence at about 2m32s among many others)

Nakamura is pretty much the king of action sakuga.. but Yoshimichi Kameda is quickl;y catching up imo, his work on FMA Brotherhood /tip hat That Roy vs Lust scene was incredible... on a different note I really enjoy the way Seiya Numata goes about things, quite individual and unique, and he certainly loves his movement, which is why Kannagi Episode 2 was so godly in that regard.

I actually prefer Kameda over Yutapon. The latter's animation is too polished and perfect, I don't like that very much for action. Kameda's drawings have more individuality and his animation has this 'density' to it that creates a very powerful impact... his cut in Asura's Wrath was one of the highlights and he was competing against none less than Ohira, Okiura and all the other beasts.
Kameda is for me the best young animator of recent times, along with Tanaka. I can't wait to see what he did for EVA 3.0 |

Iso will appear either on Shinsekai Yori, or 3.0. He ought to.
On another topic, what do people here think about this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKl9mpGMCiA Does it have future in Japan? It does seem to be still easier than processing and composing 2D drawings. |

Cool!
This video of paperman i already saw it it's awesome and everything but i dont know : I can't talk for japanese but as a 2d frame by frame animator i'm not sure of embrace this kind of technique right now But it could be awesome if i have to deal with some long animation work. The results are cool but still too perfect, the human work is always superior to this why ? because human can go wrong sometimes . Ultimate perfection is cold and boring

I don't have much to contribute to this thread because I don't know much about animation.
The September sakuga MAD 1 was uploaded. There will probably be one or two more in the next few days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE2ODX6gma0 |
