I couldn't vote because my favorite endings are the "bittersweet" endings - endings that come with loss or are the "move on" type.
Examples: Honey and Clover II 5 Centimeters Per Second Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora ef tale of memories ef tale of melodies ...also a pattern between bitersweet endings and my personal favourite animes |

Good topic!
Yeah, that's the most memorable type of ending. However I voted sad because those stand out more for me most of the time. Well, sometimes inconclusive ones stand out as well. If it leaves you wanting more or trying to figure out what happens, you'll remember it better.

Although bittersweet endings are not always the preference for me, I still find those kinds of endingds to be the most memorable. Heck I've only seen Grave of the Fireflies only once, quite a longtime ago, yet I still remember that movie well.

ahh... sorry i forgot... bitter sweet endings.... i suppose you can just call it a sad or a happy ending... it depends on you... if you think your satisfied then categorize it as a happy one... and if your not then a sad one...
bitter sweet ending for me could be the most memorable of all... coz of Ichigo 100% ending... i'm so disappointed at the ending that probably i wouldn't forget the ending even after 5 years... *deep sigh* so i'll categorize it as a sad ending... |

Hmm...I guess I'd prefer happy ending more than the sad one. Although sometimes sad animes are my target..The happy endings memorable:
That's the only anime that I can think of right now..

Sad ending: When a main character sacrifices themselves for the future of others. Martyrdom is a wonderfult hing, and almost hardly done in a pure form in anime, unfortunately. There are 'Martyr acts' and 'Martyrdom'. Both are different. Martyr acts are willing to do die for that particuliar ideal or cause. While martyrdom results in the death for that ideal and cause.
This is a sad ending, but also 'bittersweet'. Because as I would like to think, "Those that have lived, must bear the weight of those that have died." train of thought. Endings that make you hate them, but you eventually fall inlove with them because you hated them at one point. Like that. Anyone ever watch the animation of tales of the abyss? Like that, but without the 'coming back to life' thing. Unnecessary and softens up the purpose of the sacrifice, making it nulled and tasteless, for better or for worse. |
