Well, if you've been holding two full time jobs since elementary school, it works out.

I understand this joke. It has to do with companies not being smart and wanting young people with very long experience is mathematically impossible.

I remember reading two stories on Not Always Working about this scenario.

One company wanted someone who had a ten year experience of using a certain software despite the software was just out two years ago.

In another story, one company found a guy who had ten year experience with computers but didn't hire him because he was in his 30s and therefore think he was too old to understand new computers as they wanted someone in their 20s but had a ten year experience. The 30s computer guy pointed out how stupid their criteria was since that kind of employee who had to be 10 years old to start working on computers.

is stupid. We need someone with 3-5 years experience...the poor guy haven't work a day in his life.
well, i guess..just hoping for the best.

"i need to work to get experience. i need experience in order to find work." the logic -____-

i kept telling her that...but she just kept going on and on.

I did odd computer jobs when I was below working age, like most of my peers who weren't financially well off but not old enough to work and had an affinity for engineering. Technically speaking, we had more experience than most grads in the workforce.

HR often hire based on metrics, so sometimes the requirement for the position is drafted based on experience required to run a system without a support base, aka one-man show to save costs. I remember an old acquaintance of mine, being a former hirer passing down the parcel, was rebuked by a retrenched engineer for presenting a position you mentioned - 10 years experience for a 5 year old software.

It was a major embarrassment for her and her company, as well as their client because it went all over the software dev industry through social media. She resigned out of shame.

HR hires based on their strict filters so as to avoid staff they couldn't handle. That is why you work with idiots who can't get proper work done - zero initiative, minimal thinking skills.

Most of all, you have to be disciplined and you have to save, even if you hate our current financial system. Because if you don't save, then you're guaranteed to end up with nothing.

So just bargain them down. "We want Alan Turing and we're ready to pay him in a pound of peanuts per month." "I'm barely literate, but I'll take the job for a 6 figure salary." (I know, easier said than done. But still, if the criteria are impossible, or just unrealistic, it just means that none of the other candidates will fit either.)
