The electric charge and voltage are both important. Voltage vice 60V can kill but you would need a large charge/high current. Anyway a PSU can store potentially deadly charges for a while (there are large capacitors that can store such charges and coils in a transformator setup that can potentially up or down transform the initial voltage at the capacitors).

Actually in such a case its more likely that grounding kills you. When you work with PC components there is a warning to properly ground yourself before installing it. But thats not for your safety but the safety of the hardware.

What kills you is when there is a deadly discharge using your body as grounding wire (as a conductor). Only if there is a current flowing through your body you will actually be in danger. So, if you were completely isolated (not grounded), you would charge up to the voltage level of the voltage source and thats it (however there will still be a charging current - but it is not as potentially deadly as the current that will be subjected to you when you are grounded).

The next question is, where does the current flow. When it flows from finger to arm to torso to leg to feet, then you will cover a lot of organs to damage in the current's way. If you were grounded directly at your arm or finger, the current would flow more localy in these body parts and has a lesser potential to damage vital organs.

The "purpose" is to create safe, SMOOTH, electrical power for those delicate modern computer circuits. (note that I capitalized SMOOTH

).

And you can make bombs out of almost anything in your house, small appliances included.

This ... is the pit of the "military-industrial complex" -- that the defense department exists purely for corporations to siphon money out of the federal budget and to eliminate oversight or accountability. Whenever you hear conservatives blather on about "privatization", this is the nasty little goblin under the table biting your shorts.

I'm not inherently against privatizing specific functions but it MUST come with government citizen-accountable oversight or its just the barons looting the treasury again.

The Bush administration spent 2000-2008 "privatizing" every government agency they could ... and eliminating the agencies ability/budget to perform oversight. That's why I said in 2008 it might take as long as 10 years to repair the damage done to all the agencies from the FDA to the Interior to, yes, the Defense Department.

Go find this manual named "Improvised Munitions Handbook", it is an official print that is distributed to the US combat troops during the Vietnam War.

it is a good thing or bad thing that so many posters are so familiar with the manufacture of improvise explosives

and most of us don't even have the excuse of living through the 60s.
