An unguarded moment at the G20 is set to pile huge embarrassment on presidents Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy.

The pair were caught out having a private dig at the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during talks last week in Cannes.
.....
Mr Sarkozy is then overheard saying: 'I cannot stand him. He is a liar.'

Mr. Obama is reported to have replied: 'You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!'

The U.S. president then urged Sarkozy to try to persuade the Palestinian Authority to step down its campaign for membership of the United Nations.

After three minutes, French officials realised the conversation was being eavesdropped and cut the microphones, Arret Sur Images said.

Ouch, that has got to be embarrassing.

He's been called worse. Clinton called him an SOB in the Wye summit of 1998. Still funny though.

I'm rather amused by the irony of one politician calling another a "liar".

For a contry ? probably not much, probably something than should be asked to Stephen Harper...
For a politician ? it probably depend on his electors and their preference. To support them is a good move if they see them more like nazi's ( or terrirists's) victims more than palestinian's oppressor, peoples see morality mostly like a white or black thing.

Not really a benefit per se. You'd be able to benefit from those discoveries regardless of how closely aligned your country is to Israel.

these would be a + only if you are going to tell no one else but Israel could have invented the. i am pretty sure most of the science and military stuff could be duplicate here in the US.

Anyway i was look at the strategic benefits of the US/Israel alliance and whether it is worth the money the US give Israel every year and the unconditional support in the UN.

The Lavi is inspired by/copied from the F-16. It's hardly an original invention.

I don't want to reduce the value of the discoveries made by Israel but that do not answer the question: what kind of benefit the US ( or any othr nation) would get by supporting Israel ? Beside international embarassement when the Israel gouvernement increase the Israelian settlement in contested/palestinian territory ( pissing off the palestinians) or others thing than make the Israelian look like asshole.
