So... is there anyone left alive translating these things? Hopefully the Baka-Tsuki collaboration, releases its translators into the wild so that they can frolic freely, tossing out translations here and there like RandomGuy was doing before he was abducted by Onizuka-GTO . (just goes to show that cartels are inefficient, competition always seems to give people a swift kick in the rear even when the profits aren't tangible )

If you do that, then you'll get different people translating the same things here and there and all over the place. Nobody joined the collaboration because they were forced to, and even within the team, people mostly work independently at their own pace. The wiki is open to everyone as well, so the translators can post the translations on their own if they really wanted to.

I don't know how the others are doing, but I've been pretty occupied recently and I'm simply tired of translating right now (I barely had time to sit down at the computer for the past few days and I don't want to spend the times I do have translating). There's no guarantee that other translators won't be hit with sudden tasks that'll take them away from translating either.

I understand what you're trying to say, but you know, if you're unhappy about how translations are done, there's always that "learning Japanese" thread.

=============================
Vol.10 of the novel is going to be out on... Christmas lol (source)

Then again, Yamaguchi-sensei, what's with this godly writing speed?

As for the story...

The post in the general discussion got updated with the covers of volume 9 and the side story volume.

Volume 10 of the shounen light novel Zero no Tsukaima will be out on 25/10/2006, so I'll update that post as soon as the covers of the volume are available.

Edit:

I'll contact an admin after the addition of the 10th volume to this post and ask for updating the first post of this thread.

I think its 25/12/2006, or i'd have already ordered it.
As things stand, I probably wont get to see it until early january, but I'm still happy because thats alot sooner than I expected

Ahh >.< oops I meant 25/12 , but I wrote 25/10

But I'm still not sure what to do to order them (yes everything: the 10 volumes and the side story light novels) or wait for a license >.< and buy the translated light novels.

Edit:
I'll mention this here too for those interested

First volume of the seinen manga Zero no Tsukaima will be released on 22/12/2006 (yes 22/12 and not 22/10 LOL )

Zero no Tsukaima manga is serialized in the seinen manga magazine Comic Alive.

well, if you are learning J, they make excellent study material, imo

Compared to all the other light novels I have read, Zero is probably one of the easiest ones to read, not just in terms of vocabulary, but in structure as well. (Opposite to ones like, say, Owari no Chronicle)

But most light novels aren't fully noted with furiganas, so for people who are still learning kanji, it might be a little difficult to work through.

For the real beginners, I'd suggest mangas instead, since mangas are far easier to read, as well as having full furiganas (except certain seinen magazines).

As for vol.10, actually, I already commented on it in my last post.

I ordered Zero no Tsukaima Complete. Looking forward to reading that "Eight years ago" novel. ^^

I have decided on something, I'll wait until the 11th (not the 10th) volume is released, if no license until then, I'll order the 11 volumes + side story volume on the day that volume 11 is released >.<

A bad luck would be that the day after that it gets licensed but thats not funny at all, I'll really get angry

I have looked at many shounen light novels from the shounen light novel label MF Bunko J, many of the covers look so moe~ I wish that more light novels from that label would get animated

Hrm, retroactive first post???

Might as well make the most of it.

If you like these novels but don't read J, you can find a fan translation project here:

Do light novels get licensed for translation? (I don't know of any, but I don't exactly look for them)

It's still a bit rare, but it's happening more and more. There've been a few anime tie-in novels released over the years (like Onegai Twins, Love Hina, etc.). Tokyopop licensed Scrapped Princess and Karin light novels, Viz licensed Shagukan no Shana light novels, and Seven Seas is trying to get something started too with Shiginami no Ballad, Strawberry Panic, Pita-ten and a few others. So, it's nothing like manga licensing yet, but it seems to be gaining momentum.

Yeah exactly as relentlessflame said

Also since Shagukan no Shana light novels got licensed, I think there's some hope for this to get licensed too

Wow, okay.
I just started the shakugan series myself.
Having seen the anime version has given me a bit of a head start, so I'm not nearly as confused by the rush of events in the beginning as I would be if I hadn't seen the anime.

I like the writing style too
