Raw is out yes, and it's up on on the Japanese Playstation store.

OK, seen it in Japanese, which means I don't understand most of the talky parts, so initial impressions from someone who doesn't know the novel story beforehand:

I am bound to miss stuff because I've only watched it once, no subs, even. Can't wait for more. But so far it's shaping up to be my new favorite Gundam ever.

Agree on the BGM part. The Unicorn activated scene combined with the wonderful BGM is plain beautiful. I must have the OST!

Aside from what everyone said (the BGM, animation, etc), the sound is also fantastic. All the shooting, explosion, beam clashing, destruction sounds add more impact to those scenes.

Must have the OST, indeed.

Hm... the more I'm comparing to the novelization, the more I'm not liking some of the cuts they made. Some of the novel points seem important to me, but... *wonders if he can do a huge ass translation project between now and the next installment of Unicorn to show fans*

At least that will have Dolby TrueHD audio (don't know about PS Store version). The sound effects seem to be well mastered even without it, all the whooshes and all, but I want to see how good the Blu-Ray will get.

As for the translation project, the best of luck. Honestly.

In the US, Amazon exclusively for the BluRay. You local store for the DVD.

Other places, not sure.

Definitely not on PSN, yet.

This is definitely the main strength of the OVA. Every single action scene is well choreographed. My favorite scene is when the Jegans are getting massacred. I generally like the mech designs too, every single featured mech looks good. - Kshatriya & Marida. I already fell in love with Kshatriya ever since I first saw its design, but I find myself liking the pilot too, from what I've seen. Her putting back her teammate's glasses was a nice endearing detail with insight to her personality. I'm looking forward to see the full extent of her personality, especially with respect to how she calls her commander "Master". As for Kshatriya I love how it moves. At this rate I'll end up rooting for the antagonist in mecha fights, lol. - Audrey. The premise was quite stereotypical of anime here: protagonist meets bossy girl, and from there his whole life change. We see this in Dragon Ball, in Rurouni Kenshin, in Code Geass, Bleach and many more. But there is something about Audrey's facial expressions and voice that convinces me "this girl is royalty and you gotta listen to her". She's brave and cute, unfazed even when being sucked into space. A certain pink-haired warrior princess taught her well? - Weightlessness. It may be irrational but I'm extremely delighted when seeing the classroom layout. Of all the Gundam shows I've seen I don't think I've ever seen any that portray microgravity living to the extent Unicorn shows it. But the story taking part entirely in a colony enables that, I guess. The way Banager and his friends scatter around with no up or down, the way Marida moves when she was pursuing Audrey & Banagher, Cardias' bodyguard reflex when catching his boss' body and then turn to shoot the enemy. - Unicorn's launch. Favourite part is when it's released from the... I can't remember the English word... structure that holds it in place. - Animation. Everything moves really smoothly. - BGM. Previously, my favourite Gundam BGMs tie between Turn A's and 00's. Now it's Unicorn's. - Haruka Tomatsu. - Death. Or specifically, how it takes time to show people's reaction to their friends' death even though they're nameless grunts, because that's usually what makes a death scene have impact. STUFF I DON'T LOVE - Banagher. As a main character, so far he didn't grip me. Still feels like a generic shonen lead. With me liking the girls more, it feels like Turn A all over again. - Character art. Okay, it was generally well-done with only few instances of characters looking off-model. However, against elaborate CG backgrounds, sometimes I feel that the line art is too thick while the shading is too flat. The red lines used to show blushing looks out of place. I think there is still room for improvement, using some lens blur to show depth of field when characters stand in different distances from the "camera". Maybe the shading can be softer too, to balance out with the background. Macross Frontier come to mind. - Character design. Again, it's not bad, but I agree with MakubeX2 about characters looking too young. OTHER PONDERINGS - At the start, I thought Cardias Vist would be the bad guy. Guess it's part of not understanding most of what they people are saying. - It's a pity we don't get old characters' cameo... I am bound to miss stuff because I've only watched it once, no subs, even. Can't wait for more. But so far it's shaping up to be my new favorite Gundam ever. Perhaps the meaning of existence lies within their will to fight. People feel a sense of accomplishment through battle. And it’s also a fact that the ones actually fighting are never perceived as being tainted.
