But we have a problem. two storylines that really need to stay seperate. We have to name each and call dibs on post by name.

I say we name the fic "Insert cool title here: Fate" for the main storyline, and then have "Insert cool title here: Nanoha" for Nanoha's side of the story." so start dealing out ideas for name titles!

Also, I'm archiving this as it goes. Once we have a name I'll update front page with the needed information.

“Noodle”

Fate groaned out as she flipped through yet another channel with nothing on it. Once she got off from work she only had the motivation to eat dinner and lay around on the couch. After passing another shopping channel she rubbed her unusually sore legs and turned off the tube.

“What a bucket of fun I am…” One hand went behind her head while another went to rub her thigh. “It’s only ten thirty and I want to turn in.” After getting up slowly she made her way off to her bedroom; sore legs complaining with every step. “I haven’t even showered yet,” she said with another scratch of the head and a look at the door to her bathroom. Deciding that a shower might just be the cure for feeling like crap, she made a stop in her bedroom to take her clothes off. Once stripped, she went over to her dresser to pick out some sleep clothes.

“Today was a real thriller,” Fate rummaged through her pantie draw, “Wake up, work, come home, eat, shower, and sleep… the life of a real go getter…” She sighed after her body reminded her why she did nothing after work. After picking a pair she laid them out on the bed, taking a glance at her night stand. Eyes and face lit up in thought. “Well I could do that…” She debated the idea, wondering if she could stand long enough for a proper job, but before she could decide the phone started to ring. Going back into the living room she answered the phone and was greeted back by that favorite voice of hers.

“Umm… Good evening Fate.”

“Evening Princess. Gee you caught me at the right time, I just got naked.” The blond plopped herself back onto the couch, pulling a blanket over her body to keep herself warm.

“Oh… I guess that means you would not be able to go out tonight?” Princess sounded very disappointed.

“Sorry, even if I took a shower and got dressed I don’t think I could stand going out tonight. I’m really sore today, and not in a sexy fashion.”

“Oh, well I hope you feel better tomorrow.”

“Yea…” She played with her hair, “We could always have phone sex.”

“Umm…”

“It’s easy; just tell me what you are wearing.”

“Why?”

“So I can tell you how to take it off.”

“Eww, Fate…”

“Had to get my daily dose of embarrassing you... How about this: if I’m good tomorrow we could go out…,” she stared up at the ceiling to gather an idea, “for something to eat.”

“Something to eat?”

“Come hungry tomorrow night, I know what we could do that will be different.”

“Okay, that sounds like fun.”

“Oh and Princess, don’t were any of those pretty dresses of yours.”

”Why?”

“Because I think you might be more comfortable with pants or something. If you’re going to start walking around with the rest of us low lives you ought to start dressing like us. It will keep you from sticking out.”

“Okay…”

“Just don’t dress like a hooker, or I might want a good time.”

Princess let out an uneasy chuckle, “Okay, well, good night Fate”

”Night, Princess.”

Fate laid out on the couch, feeling somewhat better after the little chat. With a smile she got up and ran as best she could to the bedroom. Grabbing her favorite toy from inside her night stand she made off into the shower.

The girls decided to meet at their usual corner. Fate noticed while waving that the brunette took her advice well, as she was decked in blue jeans and a loose fitting pink tee shirt. ‘Damn, nothing to look at.”

“So, where are we going tonight?”

”I told you last night,” the blond motioned for Princess to follow, “We’re going to grab a bite to eat.”

They followed the usual route to the other side of town. Even though this path was walked a few times before, Nanoha still looked about, interested in every nook and cranny. The landscaper noticed this natural curiosity. She liked that Princess was curious and timid, not some stuck up know-it-all rich bitch. It is an amusing characteristic, but when she looks at her with those blue eyes…

“Umm… Fate… Why did you stop?”

Fate nodded and pointed, “Cuz this is our turn.”

Princess looked at the alley the blond pointed at and backed up a little bit. She put her hands behind her back to fidget with them and glanced at Fate with that shy embarrassed face.

“There?”

The blond stepped forwarded, “Don’t worry, its ok.” She motioned forward, getting her companion to follow close behind her. The girl was nervous, and rightfully so given what most alley ways consist of, but this one was different. A little ways in and around a corner they saw a shop nestled in this remote spot. It looked like someone cut a hole in a building and put a counter in its place. The lamps behind the counter and the red lanterns hanging on the alley side provided the only light that would attract anyone who didn’t have a sense of smell. Fate walked up to the counter and plopped herself on a stool. Princess did the same only a lot more nervously.

“What is this place?”

“A ramen shop.” She said it like anyone would know what it was.

“Ramen?”

Fate stared at the girl next to her in disbelief. “You don’t know what ramen is?” She got a nod. “You got to be kidding me…”

“Strange I was just thinking the same thing.” The cook made himself known to the customers and stood across from them. His eyes went from Fate to Nanoha ending in a light facepalm and a sigh. “Don’t make a scene again; I like to be known for my cooking, not for customer entertainment.”

“Hay, she was the one that put her tongue in my mouth.” She got a disbelieving look back. “Ok, it was my fault for putting my hands under her shirt…and pants…”

The cook turned to the brunette with a pointed finger, “No hanky panky!”

“I… ummm… yes sir…”

Fate waved her hand, “We’re not like that… This is just a friendly late night meal.”

“So in that case what will it be?”

The blond ponder for a bit while her partner looked at the menu behind the counter in amazement. “I’ll have Shōyu with thick noodles, roasted pork, green onions, and some spouts.”

“And for you little miss?” The cook lightened up after he heard Princess’ previous stammering. The girl’s eyes darted between the man and the menu unsure what to say.

“Um… Fate? What should I get?” she gave the blond a nervous look.

“She will have…” Fate gave the menu a once over, “Miso with thick noodles, pork, green onions, and butter. Does that sound alright Princess?”

“Okay.”

“Alright, I’ll go get it ready.” With that the cook went off to the kitchen, leaving the girls to themselves.

“There is nobody here.” Nanoha looked around trying to make out what she could in the alley.

“That’s because where at a break period. Even though this place is not on the main street it still gets its fair share of customers. The working group visits during lunch and dinner times, then there is the bulk of the snacking crowd two hours earlier and in another hour the drunks will start to show up.”

“So I guess this place gets a lot of business during those times?”

“Yep, when the counter is full everyone else takes a seat somewhere in the alley or has theirs to go.”

“Do you come here a lot?”

The blond chuckled, “Yeah… either during work or with some of the late night crowd.”

“And do things like what the guy said?”

This time it was a sweet drop, “Yeah, well, a couple times…” She couldn’t exactly read the expression in Nanoha’s face, but she knew that she had some explaining to do. “Well I guess I’m just a horny girl…” She tried to chuckle again but it didn’t turn out so well. “Listen,” She turned her body towards her friend, “I might be a complete horn dog but I’m not going to just jump you… again. I just really like the feel; it’s how I am.”

“Okay, I think I understand… Maybe…”

“Oh you will understand some day when you have wonderful, hot, passionate sex.” Fate grinned, “Want to make it tonight?”

“Umm, Fate isn’t that kind of…?” the girl blushed and stammered at the prospect.

All she did to reply was to turn that grin of hers into a gentle smile. “Ah, the food’s here!”

The cook set the bowls of food in front of the girls with a “Here you go” and returned to the kitchen. Fate’s face lit up at the sight of the food and grabbed some chopsticks from the counter, eager to dig in. Nanoha on the other hand slowly followed suit trying to remember how to use the utensils. She poked her meal a few times unsure of what was in front of her.

“Don’t worry, its really good.” Fate returned to her feast with a slurp of her noodles.

Princess slowly picked up some of the food with her sticks trying to figure out the best way to eat it. After a few false attempts at getting the noodles in her mouth she finally got a hold of them and gently tried to eat it. Another bite followed suit this time more pleased with the taste of this dish that was so foreign to her.

“No need to be so polite their Princess.” Fate smiled over at the girl, “Go ahead and suck it down. No one is going to care… Besides it better to eat ramen with a little slurp.”

The girls sat there eating the late night snack. It took Princess some time but she seemed to get the hang of eating the dish and forgoing her lady like manners. When the blond was done with her ramen she just sat quietly, watching her friend eat her meal. When Princess was almost done Fate decided to tease the girl a little.

“You know, the noise is such a turn on…” Princess looked at the girl halfway through her recent bite. “I wish I was those noodles.”

Naturally the girl blushed but after putting down her stick she looked back at her friend with an honest face. “Still though, that food was delicious.”

“You forgot something” Fate then made a motion with her own bowl to tell the other to drink the rest of the soup. She watched as the other complied, still getting a kick out of seeing the princess being like everyone else. Happy blue eyes returned once again returned to look at her.

“Glade you liked it.” Then something caught her eye ‘Oh, she has a little food left on her cheek, ought to clean that up!’ She leaned in a little before catching herself ‘Idiot! I can’t get away with something like that… lets see… I know!’ She grabbed her chopsticks and slowly picked the leftover food off of the girls face. The girl was only shocked by the fact that she had food on her face, that is until her partner took the food she picked up and slowly ate it.

With a small smile Fate just set her stick back down and asked for the bill. Once she paid she got up to leave. “Let’s get going, the boozer crowd will be here soon.” They left the alley way and made it back to the street corner that seemed to separate their worlds.

“I had a good time tonight Fate.”

“Silly girl, your suppose to say stuff like that when your dating.” She paused for a moment to let it sink into the girl’s head. “But, I get it. You’re just not use to having fun I guess.”

“Well, I guess.”

“Later Princess.”

“Good night Fate.” With that she started to make her way back home with a little lightness to her step. Fate watched for a moment before turning to head to her own world.

‘No, I am the silly one...’ she shrugged, ‘for feeling like I was on a date.’

Oh! And I'm happy for the new part in L!Fate too. Ignoring some of the *ahem* stuff in there.

Let me state this again:

you can't mess up this fic

We're doing it as a team, and adjust to each other. Rick, you actually gave us a solid plot for this fic, reasonings why the enemy did what they did. You just have to take what's given and make it work. That's what I did in my part ^^ Here you go.

Spoiler for Nanoha's side:

“Wait a second,” I couldn't really understand this. “Why would someone send me back in time just to have a weaker version of myself? It would be simpler just to kill me.”

Fate threw a fit at those words, storming over to me and grabbing my hand. “Don't say such things!” Her red eyes shook in fear, and I acted on impulse before even realizing it. Leaning forward, I wrapped her in a hug and stroked her hair. The sure-fire way to sooth the blond was to stroke her hair, and I had years of practice at the forbidden strands. “Na, Nanoha?” Oh that's right, if I'm in the past then I mihgt not have permission yet... Wow, this is so weird.

“She grew up alright,” Signum noticed. “Saying things like that with a straight face... But she has a point. It would be much easier to finish her off than to send her into the past.” Leaning against the wall, she crossed her arms in thought. “The method used to send her back is unknown but if it happened during battle then it had to be intentional. But why? Nanoha can seed anything she wants to prevent the future from happening...”

Shamal brought a hand to her chin. “And if she does prevent it from happening then a paradox would be created, and an alternate universe would have formed from the split...time...lines?” She looked over at the pink haired warrior with an alarmed face.

Signum spoke once more. “That aren't targeting Nanoha in the future, they are targeting our Nanoha in the past.”

I swallowed. “They are after your world, not mine?”

“I won't let them.” Fate pulled away from me and turned to look at the others in the room. “I will save her; we made a promise. We will always call each other's names.”

That's right... This Fate heard those words for the first time not that long ago. She has no idea of the hardships we will go through later. Were we really this innocent back then? “Shamal-sensei,” I motioned with my hand. “Please take this out, I think I need to go for a walk.”

“I disagree,” Zafira spoke up, getting attention. “Not many people will take notice of Nanoha but if she uses her device then it will bring up questions. I think it would be best to avoid complications before they can start. Someone from the future, even in a different universe, will still be highly valuable to anyone. If we report this or allow anyone to find out about it then Nanoha will be wanted by everyone to abuse her knowledge.”

“That's right...” Shamal quickly started deleting all the information on her patient. “We have to get her away from everything... Vita! Contact Yuuno immediately!”

'Great,' I plucked the needle from my skin and got out of bed. “I should go back to Earth, the TSAB doesn't monitor anything there except for what is reported to them.” I needed time to calmly think about this or I was going to go crazy. 'Wait a minute...' I rotated my shoulder and noticed that all the pain was gone. “Shamal-sensei, did you heal me?”

“Yes?”

“Hm,” I shook my head. There was no reason to inform them of upcoming magical restriction and usage laws. “Can you teleport me?”

“I can.” Arf's voice floated up and for the first time I noticed the puppy on the ground. Before I knew it she shape shifted into her full form, placing a hand on her hip.

“Uwah!” I almost fell back on the bed. “Arf, you're huge!”

“Is this a good idea?” Fate asked me again while walking down the night time streets. “You should stay with us.”

“Sorry,” I squeezed her hand, realizing that this was before we held hands at every moment. I hoped I wasn't scaring her from being so affectionate. 'Come to think of it,' I mentally told myself. 'This girl isn't my Fate-chan... She is probably more worried than what she's letting on...' I looked down at her and noticed that her eyes were glazed slightly, a sure sign of deep thought. “Ne, Fate-chan?” She blinked and looked up at me. “Don't worry, I'm really strong. Something like throwing me into the future won't stop me!”

Wait a second... Did I just refer to myself in the fourth person!?

“Mmn...” Fate looked back forward, making me stop and kneel down when she gave me a curious look.

“Look,” I began softly to her. “I am really confused as well, but right now the best we can do is to stay calm and think things through. Just as I am safe here with you and everyone else, I'm sure that I'm also....That your Nanoha, that is, is safe with my Fate-chan.”

“With me?” Fate looked into my eyes and I almost lost myself in them. No matter how many years pass, her ruby eyes would always be the same.

“Yes,” I nodded to her. “She's with your older self. Trust me, you are very powerful and always protect me.”

“Promise?” She held up her pinky slowly, something I taught her.

“Promise.” I shook fingers with her and smiled. “Come on, let's get me home so you can get back to yours.”

We began walking again, silently for a while. It took almost a minute but Fate finally asked her question. “So I'm powerful enough to protect you in the future?”

“Yes,” I didn't think it would change too much if I admitted that. “You and I are both ranked S.” I almost giggled. “Don't slack off because you know.”

“I won't.” She seemed pleased with herself. I knew the reason, as she told me a few years ago...Or was that a few years in the future now? The reason Fate tried so hard was the same reason I did. I wanted to protect people. People weaker than myself. For that, I had to be stronger than Fate, and she had to be stronger than me. It was a never ending cycle of pushing ourselves to the limits... Something that I...

“Oh my,” I covered my mouth with my hand. That incident... so long ago... that almost killed me... I could prevent it. I looked down at Fate and swallowed. All I had to do was tell her. Tell her what would happen at that moment...But... If I did...My head hurt at just trying to imagine it. I would forever change history, maybe even changing the fates of others, maybe even changing how I lived my life afterwords... It was an odd feeling, knowing you could very well kill yourself by trying to save yourself...

“What is it?” Apparently I had been silent far too long. “Nanoha?”

“Nothing,” I lied to her. “I was thinking it would be nice to win the lottery or something, nya-haha.”

Fate smiled at me. “You wouldn't do that.”

“No, but it's fun to imagine.” I winked and stopped in front of the café. “Well, time to face my parents again. I hope this goes smoother than last time...” After a deep breath I opened the door and stepped in, seeing not only my parents but my brother and sister as well. “Um,” Fate stepped in next to me and took my hand. “I'm home...Kind of.” Oh wow, this was going to be fun...

Oh, that makes my life feel so much better. Fate is stuck basically being a glorified babysitter and Nanoha's all:

" I get to play with Fate-chan when she's little and doesn't understand her feelings yet."

Perhaps I should write some more of Fate's part - anyone feel up to writing a fight scene if I get the build up out of the way?

I strongly object to this. If Nanoha gets to make advances on younger Fate, I demand for older Fate to do the same for younger Nanoha. What's so wrong about making little Nanoha discover she'll be Fate's lover (possibly her fiancée as well) in the future?

Nothing at all. It would make for better lolz, actually. And I think that little Nanoha is far more likely to discover such events anyway, seeing as Fate is failing rather spectacularly at keeping information from her. I think that having little Nanoha around might be a strong emotional flashback to what it was like for Fate after she came back into Nanoha's life in A's - constantly being careful to not overstep her bounds as a friend for fear that Nanoha would decide that she doesn't want to be friends any more. I think that that might be why Fate is showing more restraint than Nanoha apparently is.

Nanoha looked a little green when Fate finally stopped in front of the small children’s clothing store that she and Vivio had discovered one afternoon on the way home from school not too long ago. “Fate-chan drives too fast,” she said, releasing her vice-grip on her safety belt and frowning as Fate pulled up the emergency break and pocketed the keys. She unclipped the belt and blinked up at the store’s wide display windows and the hand-painted sign that proclaimed the store to sell children’s clothes.

“I’m sorry, Nanoha,” Fate smiled, feeling exhilarated from the drive and knowing that Nanoha was at least feeling some of the same adrenaline that was coursing through her veins at the moment. It would be a good way for her to release some of the stress of being in a new place. Nanoha wasn’t one to come out and speak her mind about her own insecurities, they had to be coaxed out of her in a slow, tedious process that Fate was still getting the hand of, even after knowing the girl for nearly ten years.

Fate watched as Nanoha climbed out of the car and punched the auto-lock button on the car door before getting out of the car herself. “Chi-“ Nanoha faltered, reading the sign above the door. “Chi-ru-do-re-n-su Chi-mu?” Her brow furrowed as she attempted to sound out the store’s name.

“Children’s Time,” Fate said, frowning. Nanoha was speaking Mid’s language without even trying, and yet she was having trouble reading the written language. It didn’t make any sense – as Fate very clearly remembered her friend helping Amy and Chrono out with their research into the Book of Darkness. Why would Nanoha suddenly not be able to read the official language of Mid-Childa?

Nanoha looked up at Fate with confusion in her eyes. “Why is it written in English?” she asked.

Suddenly it dawned on Fate what the problem was. Mid-Childa used a form of writing that was not well-known to anyone outside of the Mid. Sure, the intelligent devices that both Nanoha and she herself used displayed the writing, but Fate could not remember the last time she was actually paying attention to what Bardiche’s gem was saying as she was in battle. The chances were that Nanoha simply didn’t recognize the character structure of Mid-Childa at all.

While many of the TSAB’s main programs are first coded in the character set, reading it isn’t something that’s expected of anyone until they actually wind up living here.” Fate explained. She held out her hand to Nanoha, “Shall we go in?”

The actual shopping trip was done in short order. Nanoha really wasn’t all that bigger than Vivio at the moment, and Fate had justified the expense of the few outfits for Nanoha by saying that when they returned her to wherever it was that she came from, they could simply pass down the outfits to Vivio when she got big enough. Still, it was fun to have a much younger Nanoha act as her doll for the few peaceful hours that they got to spend in the store.

They settled on a lot of clothing that was similar to what Nanoha had worn during much of their childhood – simple sweaters with wide collars and loose skirts. Fate could never understand Nanoha’s constant want to be wearing a skirt – mostly because she found them to be rather aggravating at times. Still, this was about keeping Nanoha as happy as she could for the time being. Fate had made sure to throw in a few brightly colored pairs of socks, because she remembered how much Nanoha had loved wearing the brightly colored garments with her school uniform in the past. Perhaps a little color would help brighten up the rather drab wardrobe that they’d managed to find for her.

They were carefully loading their purchases into the trunk of the car when Bardiche’s emergency display screen flickered into life, flashing a red ‘ALERT’ for the whole world to see. Fate slammed the trunk closed, a feeling of panic suddenly filling her. How was she supposed to engage if Nanoha was with her? She couldn’t very well risk having the enemy discover that the TSAB’s favorite trump card was suddenly operating on ten years less magical and military experience. Nanoha would be killed for sure.

Fate took two calming breaths and eyes Nanoha for a moment as the younger girl leaned forward curiously to watch as Fate reached into her pocket and grabbed Bardiche. There really was no helping this.

Hayate’s face flickered into life as Fate allowed a little bit of magical energy to channel through into Bardiche’s internal computer system. “Fate, we’ve got trouble,” she said in way of a greeting. “Where are you?”

“South sector, near the speedway,” Fate responded promptly, “About fifteen minutes away from Section Six’s headquarters.”

“Scramble to the point indicated,” the screen flashed away from Hayate’s face to indicate a point nearly five miles away – two minutes if Fate was flying at top speed. Fate began to scroll the data that was provided.

“Only two of them this time?” Fate commented thoughtfully, looking at the live feed of their foes. They were currently engaged by some of the army’s mages – and it seemed that it would only be a few minutes before the army’s forces were completely overwhelmed. “I can handle it.”

There had been one powerful mage present yesterday, and around fifteen less-powerful ones. Fate was pretty sure, judging by the power levels that the pair was putting out, that these were among the lower-power category. She could handle taking down two of them.

“Fate-chan, be careful.” Hayate said, before the screen vanished.

“Fate-chan?” Nanoha asked and Fate bit back the urge to swear. She gathered Bardiche’s power around her and formed her Barrier Jacket, allowing it to fully manifest before she responded.

Tell me something, Nanoha, Fate asked though the mental link that had always existed between the two of them. Can I engage in this battle and not have you jump in at the last minute when you think I’m in danger?

Nanoha laughed as Fate offered her a gloved hand. No, Fate-chan. I will always protect you. We promised that, remember?

Fate took off at full speed, her form flickering across the sky as she sped towards their destination.

It's not that big a problem. Fixing it is as easy as someone saying "She's not from the future, she's from a Mirror Dimension." If the people in Big Nanoha's dimension can figure it out, the ones in Little Nanoha's dimension should be able to also.
Since we haven't gotten further into this aspect, it's no problem at all.
