Level E continues to have its share of surprises.
Spoiler for episode 2:

It definitely has a witty humor with some MIB flair. Definitely sailing high in my list of this season.

Prince is definitely one of the best characters I've seen, ever.

I mean, his trolling is just awesome. He has the same flair that Ayane from furuba did, and that ranks him up way high on my list.

This show truly delivers!

Not exactly. It was through a mini-camera implanted on its forehead.

What amazes me about this show is that it's so retro in every aspect - visuals, characters, humor, writing style - and yet still feels totally fresh. Thank goodness for adaptations that make so sense whatsoever.

It feels fresh because it's being made now , along side the anime of today. But yeah everything from the 1995 manga is kept in place here, so it's a worthy adaptation so far.

This. If this series was made in the late 90s it would have gone unnoticed.

Does anyone agree that this is the male version of Shinryaku! Ika Musume?

Lol. So Prince is strange even to a strange alien planet...

Well sure - I think that's the point. But it goes deeper than that. Some material from the 90's would feel dated if it were adapted now, or adapted badly anyway - it depends on how universal the material is and how good the writing is. It's like two movies released at the same time - some may hold up and still be relevant 20 years later, others might be hopelessly dated.

liking this series so far.

I don't know if its the right word...but using it liberally..

This is probably the best tsukkomi-type humor type show I seen in a while.

The alien fractions subplot, I hope it doesn't get too deep into it, and there's more of just the alien x human bromance going on.

Nah - for one, Ika Musume is nowhere near the troll that Prince is. Well, there is a similarity, in that the main character is a fish out of water unfamiliar with the normal human lifestyle, but personally I find that's as far as the similarity goes. While the focus of Ika Musume is more about how she discovers and reacts to human things like umbrellas and dolls, Prince does that also, but I think the series will focus more on how he'll discover not just human's lifestyle, but also other aliens masquerading as regular humans and possibly having conflicts with them. Also, no verbal tics de geso!

I think one of the reason it held up well is that it doesn't have or reference too many things specific to the time era when it was made. So far it's mostly things like TV and baseball, which is pretty much as common then as it is now (maybe the TV now is more advanced, but not more than that). But more than that, it focuses more on the characters and not the setting, as well as more on the aliens which is as unknown now as it was then. I haven't read the manga so I can't compare for sure, but maybe the anime staff touches up some minor stuff too to make it more modern, like clothes, hairstyle and the likes.
