The fanservice began when Suguha was introduced, and it just keeps building now. It really takes away from any tension, in my opinion.

I suppose there was a brief moment with Silica, but it's not like they were hovering a camera over her breasts for 10 seconds, then slide it over to her friend's thighs for another, and so on. I'm not saying all fanservice is pointless, but it really feels out of place here, especially since it was much tamer in the first cour.

That was a pretty badass fight and hohoho more girls falling for Kirito... let's just hope they are real girls.

seriously, I think the fights in this new arc are much better than the old arc's. We've more fights and more fluid motions as if this is a new anime!

I thought it was somewhat justifiable. For one thing, we're dealing with a guy who just pwned the greatest fighter in the entire virtual world and claims to be completely unaffiliated; as a leader of an entire race the lure of such a demigod would be almost irresistible, and the danger that he might give his allegiance to someone else entirely unbearable. There's no way they wouldn't use their personal 'charms' to try and snare him. At the same time, Leefa's tragic love is being emphasized a lot right now, and I imagine she'd be looking at what they're doing even more than Kirito, but with feelings of offense and jealousy of course. Any way, I kind of wish Kirito had mentioned being part of another online game where one very pretty, feminine lady was revealed to actually be a guy IRL.

Look, your point is definitely valid and would probably happen in real life (given that such...detailed seduction could occur in a game like this), but how about when he was in enough power in SAO? Sure, there was aspects of romance and the such, but it felt valid. Lizbeth wasn't walking around with cleavage so big you wonder how the clothes even stay on, and Asuna was a genuine partner who was married to Kirito, thus giving the whole undressing scene in Episode 10 a meaning. That was the only moment of fanservice in the first half, by the way.

It just feels like the concept has deteriorated since the first cour. Suguha is the worst of this, and I think 3/4 of the time you see her, she's missing around half of her clothing. I'm not saying that all fanservice is bad, but show me that it can be used properly.

Seriously, give me one reason why we have to be passed the information that Suguha's feeling embarrassed towards Kirito and is telling herself she's "just his guide" while she's in her underwear? Why does it intentionally pan over her breasts and slide up her body before she says it? Scenes like that feel jarring to me, since it pulls away any buildup of what's to come. After that scene, why should I care about her personal strife? The creators obviously wanted me to stare at her breasts and pay money.

It's like Highschool of the Dead. Some things were done quite well in that series, but the fanservice is what killed it for most people, even for me. The scene where Rei is feeling lonely and reaches out to Komuro; that fanservice was used in conjunction with the development. However, when they feel the need to have overly detailed and lengthy shower scenes or have breasts bounce when a truck shakes, then what's the point of it all. Might as well go searching for porn by that point instead of a show with a plot.

Ergo, there are fanservice scenes here that make sense and can be used without detaching oneself from what's happening. However, the ratio in which these differ from the opposite is giving me concerns. If it hadn't been for this episode, I would've been convinced that they'd just tossed aside that one girl...Asu...na or something, I dunno.

"Just as planned" episode - Kirito gaining trust from two factions and impressing one by defeating the strongest.

He was revived. Presumably you don't lose your gear until you run out of time to be revived.

I'm giving this episode a 10. From an entertainment standpoint, this one did it easily. I don't nit-pick anime anywhere near the level that I did when I was younger. Great to see more bad-azzness from our Hero. Also great to see Asuna escaping the cage, now we will see where she goes from there. She is still trapped in the game, and Mr. douchebag once he finds out she's going, will just use the servers to track her down again.

So am I the only one who thinks that the 5.0 update Sakuya mentioned is going to also contain the fruit of Sugou's research? After how the SAO arc ended, there's no way I'm not going to pay attention to the little details...

True, but half the fights aren't serious enough or don't have real consquences as when they were trapped back in SAO. Back in SAO people really died when they will killed in the game, but in AFO it's just all fun and games. The fights lack punch when people don't die, imo.

Sugou is researching memory/emotion control, while update 5.0 has a reincarnation system, which is basically just a race change. It's normal for MMOs to add new updates, so it may not be related at all.

His research isn't done yet, otherwise he would have brainwashed Asuna already.
If he plans to brainwash tens of thousands of ALO players with the 5.0, the patch must come out within one week, otherwise Asuna would be married to Sugou, which would be game over for Kirito.
From the conversation, they said it was 'rumoured to include the reincarnation' system, meaning they are not certain and 5.0 may still be in development.
It's safe to assume the update won't be any time soon.

I know it's not completed, but in one of the first Oberon scenes, if not the first Oberon scene, he said right out he had almost completed the research. Hell, my guess is that he's hoping to have it done by the marriage just so Asuna can conveniently wake up during or after and be okay with said marriage.

His character was from SAO, including items, stats and money. He deleted the items since they were incompatible in ALO, but from this episode it looks like the money system is the same in both games.
Not only does he have his money, but Asuna's as well since they were married. They should be fairly rich from grinding mobs on the frontline everyday in SAO.

...it was probably a good idea that they didnt show Kirito's hp during the fight...
...in the beginning he started with 400 hp...
...even after 2 days and perhaps armour bonus...how much more can it increase?

...if anything i say Kirito has a glass canon build going on...

the most powerful (physically) is called eugene...brilliant.

Great battle though, one of those moments that myself and others sums up why we love this show.

Great when he stole leafa's sword to dual wield, I knew it had to happen sometime down the line.

Not to mention Asuna was loaded in SAO, I think she said her house, everything included, was like 4 million col. And she probably had more to spare.
