Well if I remember in the chinese contest the ones on lower tiers actually had a cap of 980 xp aprox (from tier 1-4). In the 5-8 1400xp aprox was the minimum.

Take on account that this contest is classified by every single heavy. Quoting the wot main page:

What it boils down to is that the top 50 XP earners in a single battle for every heavy tank, tier IV to tier X, will receive a gold reward, and the top three individuals with the highest XP score in a single battle for the tier, will received gold and a tank! Every tank is a separate prize pool, one for each heavy tank in the game (excluding premium tanks).

A prize for each heavy tank in the game, except premiums.

That's more reasonable, as frankly it's REALLY hard to get scads of exp unless you singlehandedly steamroll the opposing team (VERY hard to do in a B1), and get several awards/medals on top of that.

well if your loaded with gold its not impossible... but it would take awhile to steam roll the opposite team.

Which is just stupid on the B1. The only time I ever even consider using APCR on it is when I run into a Hetzer or Matilda, or a tier 5 tank. Otherwise it's just wasteful, as the only thing APCR does for the B1 is give it better penetration, and that's it.

See here, that type of exp is nearly impossible to get on a B1, unless you annihilate a good chunk of the enemy team (7 or 8 tanks) AND get spotting damage on top of that. Its because the damage of the 47mm is pretty lethargic..

Don't forget it's the top 50 xp earners per tank. I'm pretty sure 1800 xp is impossible for a B1, the 1800 figure was for the IS. For the B1 you 'only' need 1200.

For those who are serious about the heavy contest and other future contests I'd recommend you check out the European Razer's Edge winners (which had similar rules) this will give you a good idea how much xp you will need to aim for in your favourite tank.
I was actually wrong about the 1800xp figure for the IS, 2000xp is a much safer bet.

Grats, on your first tier 8 tank. Make sure to have a comfortable amount of money left over when you buy the tank. Tier 8 doesn't earn much money in stock configuration and the modules, particularly the guns, are rather expensive.

nah, i'm pretty sure that that was the tech tree in the test server and will be on the live server soon.

8.6 which is mainly an arty patch with a few other tweaks, fixes, and patches to the game. Well i might as well figure out why my GUI is using the old layout rather than the new, I suppose I'll reinstall it from scratch this time rather than moving everything over.

I am doing just that at this very moment as I do have the creds to buy it right now but I'll need a few hundred thousand to kit it out.

I have a small amount of gold left over from a while back so I'll convert some free Xp as well to help with the tracks or turret.

It looks like the engines are going to be the most painful parts to grind as they are twice as much Xp as the guns. =s

On a random note is it just me or does the Russian lend/lease matilda have a freaking machine gun....

Also regarding the above screenshot, I didn't notice a new M4 premium in the test server the other day ? is it a recent addition ?

Well, I already have a 1278 unmodified exp match for the B1, which means I qualify a bit. However, I'd STILL like to try to break or get my personal best of 1403 exp. If I get that again, or beat it, I'll have a chance to place for it somehow.

Well, it's actually in anticipation of the Fleet Units being player controlled. Also, carrier landings.

Takes me back to the good old days of playing WarBirds, but I had a full setup then. 22 button joystick, full throttle quadrant, metal rudder pedals, and awesome speakers. ~nostalgic~
