I saw this story on reddit from a different article weeks ago, and my thoughts then, alongside the reddit comments, was along the lines of: "If we have to do that in the first place, if it's at all remotely economical, we're screwed. Give it up. Kill yourself -- we deserve it."

Some of the more interesting "alternative," and frankly much more sensible ideas for a freshwater shortage scenario would be desalination plants built or adapted from oil rigs in ocean dead zones or relatively barren regions off the coast, where marine life aren't so prevalent that constant partial desalination -- so that the byproduct would be slightly saltier water, rather than crystalline salt -- would not have much or, basically, any real impact.

*Digging* for freshwater reserves beneath masses of saltwater sounds like someone wants to wreck the planet. Again.

Anti-Aging Compound Will Move to Human Trials

After successful trials on two-year-old mice to make them appear six months old, scientists from the US and Australia could begin testing an anti-aging compounds on humans next year.

Two-year-old mice were given a compound over a week, moving back the key indicators of ageing to that of a six-month-old mouse. Researchers said this was the equivalent of making a 60-year-old person feel like a 20-year-old.

2 years from now the zombie apocalypse starts. Oh, or maybe it'll be sold at 50,000 a day to keep the rich nice and young - and make the plebeian poor folks fight it out to receive a dosage in some sort of contest. If it's just for treating ailments, like dementia and stuff that's pretty awesome (although I wouldn't say no to living for a couple hundred years). I wonder what happens if you stop taking it though... those mice "regressed" from 2 years old to 6 months in a week, rapid re-aging like in some horror movie?

Either way, this is pretty incredible, but such an ethical minefield.

I don't precisely know how this works, but I think "reversing if you stop consuming" makes less sense than a permanent change.
