As hinted by promotional material, this movie focused on Yuta relationship with Gridman.
While they often pictured as something akin to Ultraman (alien host), the truth is its all Gridman in S1; he hijack Yuta to save Akane.
By S1 it looks like there's no consequences about it, Akane saved, its all good. Turned out Gridman eventually felt guilt by his decision, to be able to enjoy life as Yuta without Yuta consent. Yuta, as new threat looms, seek Gridman in hope of solution.

I like the movie take it serious enough, usually in this case, both sides easily accept each other because world is going to end soon.
We got Yuta reflected on situation then confronted Gridman as someone with definite conclusion. Gridman did no harm but he have to be responsible; Yuta will accompany him this time. Ultimately shown that Yuta is man worthy of Gridman respect, while Gridman can't just Fixer Beam his way on social relationship. No need to wait long, Trigger crank up hype to max worthy of final battle to close the story.

Three minutes later, my inner 10-year old want to yell following the intense super robot action.
Beautiful. Really remind me of times when super robot is all about being passionate instead of on race to became the next Evangelion to the point they became expy. As sequence of action goes, I gradually understand why Obari is so proud of Gridman Universe in Twitter. This is kind of works he's been waiting for, being movie come with benefit they can go ham with budget compare to series.

The ending is nice. My only disappoinment is the final boss can be more thematic to movie than quickly settle it as it got world-ending power.
It managed to raise my expectation to currently airing slow-burner Kamen Rider Gotchard given the writer currently working on it as the main writer; kind of surprised me looking back Tsuburaya going strong with host-alien relationship theme for: Shin Ultraman, Gridman Universe and Ultraman Blazar.

Is this the best anime movie for 2023? Definitely not.

You love super robot being super robot? You finished Gridman and Dynazenon on positive light? You open to classic tokusatsu?

If all is "Yes", then its easy 9/10 in my opinion.

This is the second best mecha related experience for me this year (Armored Core VI takes the top spot, heh). The fights are a blast and I was grinning like an idiot the whole time. The frequent use of low angle shots makes you feel that you are a spectator watching in awe as these giants slug it out. And the slice-of-life parts are just as fun.

They really did a lot right with this movie. And glad to see that they did. Was worried on some level that they'd have a hard time balancing out the two casts. But I think they got right what they needed to.

Yeah had a blast watching this, really feels like studio Trigger is perfect for these type of tokusatsu anime and I hope they'll do more in the future.

Just watched it....wow amazing indeed

When I was enjoying the fight, suddenly I realized that I haven't seen this kind of passionate battle since.. Gurren Lagan. I guess, after Gridman, dynazenon, and this movie, this series has become a classic that will remain in selected audiences' hearts for a long time to come.

Surprised that I still remember all (I think?) the subplots of the first two series while this movie constantly gives us all the easter eggs they could give. Guess it means the two shows are really memorable.

I will give this movie a 9/10, and 9.5/10 due to the ending XD. The only point I take away is that I am not sure what it says in the middle of the movie, but it doesn't really matter really

Spoiler for Details: Rounding out Hibiki's story and tying it all into Gridman feeling guilty for taking over his life for a couple of months was pretty good writing. The action sequences were Trigger triggering all over the place. They were excellent. I was fairly unhappy when I heard Akane Shinjo would return, but I thought they handled her reappearance in her own world pretty well. Especially her little finger walk acknowledgment of and goodbye to Rikka. Great little callback to the SSSS.Gridman ED, there! And, like all the SSSS properties, it was an over the top fun time but I want to watch it again because there were some more subtle things going on, as well. __________________ Macross Frontier Episode Guide

Spoiler for Movie Thoughts: Just nailing the moments of Gauma and Yomogi meeting again was more than enough. That was such a tough farewell for the cast that it's good that they got this moment. Plus love the little things. Chise getting to flex her artistic skills was cool. And wow she's really embraced her individuality which is great to see. Feels like she's come a long way. No surprise that Yume had no problem confirming her and Yomogi's relationship status. Watching just reminded me of the fun element to this whole thing. And helped put aside the inner groaning I had with it being a movie meaning it'd take...until now to see it! Getting a chance for Yomogi and Yuta to have a chat is just kind of fun. Gauma interacting with the Princess was also a huge payoff. Didn't even imagine she'd be in this. Lot of good moments. Obviously the confession at the end landed. That was nice. A good moment that certainly worked. And I did get a good smile out of Yomogi getting a great reaction out of Yume. I was curious if she'd just laugh it off, but it really did land. Worth it for a beautifully embarrassed Yume expression . Battles were pretty well handled. Credit to the staff to managing all the characters in this and the music. Was a solid amount of balance between the themes from both series. Really good movie. Lot of fun and was a great chance to see these characters once again and wrap some things up. __________________ Anime-Evo
