It's obvious that not only anime, but all luxury goods are going to take a massive hit. People will want to go after essentials right now, and be more prepared to what's to come.

I expect that for a while things will continue to be on hold, until the more pressing issues are sorted.

Also I heard on the MAL forums that they are going to cut off power everyday for 3 hours until the end of April. Someone probably could have already posted this, but oh well

They are indeed going to have rolling blackouts in parts of japan that still have electricity... but this is being covered over in the earthquake/tsunami disaster thread.

I'm absolutely astonished they'll be airing anything in any kind of timely fashion...After seeing what happened I would think 3-6 month hiatus atleast on most everything anime/manga wise...I know businesses have to somehow survive this, but I'm pretty shocked they'll be a decent amount of any content this month...On the other hand I guess Japan's disaster is tantamount to America still selling magazines and showing new programs after 9/11 occurred..Still though...

At this point only Tohaku and parts of Kanto - areas served by TEPCO - are subject to rolling blackouts. Points South and West are unaffected.

What's the point of the blackouts anyway ? Is there not enough electricity to cover all areas 24/7 unless they have these blackouts now that those plant(s?) are unusable.

power grid management. You have a source (power plants) and a load (everyone using electricity). You have to keep it balanced. Since so many plants are down, someone gets to have power off. Rolling blackouts are the fairest way of sharing pain. I'm surprised that non-TEPCO areas aren't also having rolling blackouts because power grids are usually inter-connected just to mitigate such situations but I don't know Japanese philosophy and design on electric power grid management.

Often there are older plants (likely non-nuclear) on "standby"/"mothballed" that may be fired up but that takes time.

On the other hand, K-ON voume 9, for one, was released as scheduled (March 16, just yesterday) and the bonus episode quickly got out onto the internet. That should be a pretty good sign that things are already calming down over there, outside of the tsunami-effected areas and the situation with the reactors, anyway.

They should just move everything a week ahead. A re-run can fill a spot if they need.

well they should be given sufficient time to properly organize time slots. Take longer time if needed, just try to make sure everything is going fine before continuing on
