I can see where your coming from there... Im looking at it as she is in to deep. I play alot of Magic the Gathering and Im looking at this show through that light. For me it almost looks like she underestimated her opponent.

I have an opponent like Battler that I play every weekend. I never can guess what he is going to pull out of his hat and while I should most likely beat him every time we play just based on the match up, he is constantly throwing kinks in my plans. Thats how I look at Battler. This should be SOOOO easy for Beatrice to win, but Battler is giving her heck by playing cards most players wouldnt touch..

As far as Lambdelta and Bernkastel are concerned I look at them as the other competitors in the room. Some of those competitors are like Bernkastel and want to help my friend win while others are like Lambdelta asking how the heck I havent won the match yet...

I don't think that Bernkastel is helping Battler for his sake, but rather for her own.
She is shown emotionless up until now. I see a big bomb ticking in her where she will pull a main string in the future and reveals her true self.
Bernkastel is far more dangerous than Battler. I don't think even Beato/Beatrice can match her.

I do agree that Beatrice is the weakest of the witches in this story. People that are confident and full of power dont have to show it off. Its usually those without that are running there mouth the most. Beatrice is the one here having to prove she's a witch, not Virgilia Berkenstal or Lanbdelta

After watching 18, I think I've developed a general idea around some stuff. In fact, I've actually think that its easier to try to figure out whos NOT going around murdering people. While I do believe magic exists within this series, the actual murders are not committed with it.

Spoiler for Episode 18:

I think that the only death that Eva actually committed in Episode 3 was that of Battler's. In fact, I think the only reason she even did that is because she just snapped after blinding Jessica and having (I'm guessing here from dialog I read from the first episode in the manga) her favourite relative accuse her of murders at this point and actually ended up believing that she was behind it. In fact, I also believe that she also kills whoever killed Nanko. I also think that at this point, the only characters that you can truly count out as potential murderers are Maria and Jessica. I am also certain that Maria KNOWS who at least one of the murderers are. I also think that if Kyrie could actually live long enough, that she would have actually figured it out quite early. I actually think that the doctor's death revealed quite a bit about who was killing in the third as I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the same as the first two. And judging from what he says before his death, it was someone who didn't know much about the doctor's history.

Shannon's return to life from 17 revealed quite a bit as well. I think its fair to say that she was at the very least, an accomplish in the first two and THOUGHT she was one in the third. Furthermore, since it was technically Genji who killed her and Kanon here, its fair to assume the same for them. In fact, I actually think George may have figured it out in the first episode (not who was in charge but that Shannon wasn't dead).

I also think that Evatrice's red truth also revealed that at least one of the people thought to be dead . . . wasn't which would explain how she could tell the truth here.

Your theory about Eva is pretty good, you should just look at Battler's dead TIP for the most probable reason Eva killed him quoting the wolves and sheep puzzle. I t's probable Eva just thought Battler was the killer and kiled him just to be safe, she was also with a horrible fever, so she could aslo be hallucinating or having deliriums, it's possible.
In your tehory you can also add Rosa, since Eva really didn't have and alibi and maybe saw Rosa killing Maria and then she just snapped. It's just too obvious Eva was the killer, that's why no one ever acuses her

I was actually thinking of adding Rosa but I'm split on it. If it wasn't for Battler stating what I originally thought about her and Maria's deaths, I wouldn't though. It is also very possible that Eva accidentally killed Rosa after Rosa snapped after killing Maria, pushing her into the fence thing which leads to her fever and when Kyrie might have thought the cigarette dated from. If Eva really did kill Rosa, I'd think that its fair game for her (Rosa) in the first two games (with her being betrayed in the second).

The wolf and sheep puzzle I didn't even cross my mind. I do think that it adds to, but doesn't change, what I originally had stated.

After watching episode 18, I have but a few things to say:

1) Battler is an idiot for any woman who knows to pull a simple manipulation trick. He almost lost again, but at least he squeaked by with an inch more space than he did in the previous arc -- and this only thanks to the new arrival. In other words, he just barely got lucky this time.

2) Beatrice isn't just a witch. Put a 'b' where the 'w' is, and you'll see my sentiments with regards to her at this point.

3) Never trust a witch in Umineko no naku koro ni. Not even one. Ever.

no, it wasn't. it's more rushed than in the novel, but if you watch closesly, it goes like that:
ANIME:
- "Battler, sign here.^^" <-still nice act and stuff.
- Battler hesitates.
- Beato and Virgilia start to nag him to sign
- goats grab him
- Battler hesitates even more
- TROLLFACES
- Battler goes WTF
- Ange comes in

Spoiler for same scene in VN:

- "Battler sign here.^^" <-still the act
- reads it, goes "oh it's so simple", looks like he's going to sign
- TROLLFACES
- Battler goes wtf
- Ange comes in, same like in the anime

so yeah. in both cases it's more like they threw out their act before he could sign. i don't think he would sign, even if Ange didn't appear so conveniently. ...unless the goatmen forced him to. which i wonder if still would work as him signing, they could as well just kill him and sign with his corpse or something. XD

Regardless of whether or not Ange could be considered a witch, I think she'd be the very first person to tell you that NO, you should not trust any witches in Umineko. No matter who they are, or what their intentions might be.
