Shouldn't the licenses be free to these new episodes? Since Geneon only licensed the first 75 episodes (and don't plan to continue the series)?

Please somebody reassure me that " in a new anime series" means continuation and not a spinoff/remake/retail/whatever nonsense. PLEASE

You'd prefer a remake to seeing Takamura vs Hawk animated? ... Why?

Ippo fights were pretty awesome but COME ON! TAKAMURA VS HAWK was THE fight that brought tears!

id rather them start from scratch. The animation techniques we have to day would be freaking awesome in Ippo. Dosent matter though, i doubt we'd get any long running series for a while. These days they seem to be doing a load of 12 episode seasons.

Plus i wasn't keen on the VA's, especially Takamura

Err...what? Did we watch the same series? I thought Takamura's VA was PERFECT for the past. Hmm, maybe you read the manga first and had your own ideas?

Pretty much every VA was perfect, in my opinion.

In fact, I'll be completely crushed if they don't bring back the exact same VAs for all their old roles. They were all absolutely perfect for the characters. I also thought that the animation was just fine -- the first spar between Miyata and Ippo, for example, was animated beautifully at times. It looked far better than the manga, where Mori's art had only just begun to evolve.

If they started from scratch it would be one of the biggest wastes of potential in anime history. They have so much absolutely amazing material to work with...Takamura/Hawk, Ippo/Sawamura, Date/Martinez, etc. It would be absolutely ridiculous if they just started from scratch to remake an already brilliant first season. A waste of their money, and a waste of our time.

the Va was good, but it just dosent fit the image i had of Takamura. Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but to me it just feels to wrong

This is one of the greatest tidbits of anime-related news I've heard in a long time. I'm genuinely excited, Hajime no Ippo is such an amazing series. I loved the original VAs as well, I would be pretty disappointed if we're to go without them. I also feel this should be a sequel, as the best has yet to come for the fights in terms of where the anime left off.

Hajime no Ippo Anime Series Returns

Hello Everyone.

Weekly Shounen Magazine has confirmed that the anime Hajime no Ippo will return in Jan. 2009. This is my favorite anime and manga. Funny, intense, and cool fights.

WOOHOO.

I would think it's very likely a continuation of the last series, i.e. where they ended with Ippo winning the Japanese Featherweight Title vs. Sendo.

This new anime then would probably focus in how Ippo would defend his title (although we saw his 1st title defense in the movie). But yes, I HOPE it's a CONTINUATION and not a RESET, since there is no lack of material to animate for ANOTHER 75 EPISODES, plus there are too many AWESOME fights as mentioned above that we still haven't seen animated!

I just fell outta my seat!

Thank goodness it was getting hard having that OVA not even starring Ippo as the last animated work...As much as I love the fighting I hope there is a bit more emphasis on the relationships...It's like they pwned us on all the love interest stories, pulling us along but never really concluding it...

Another must see series!
The manga had alot of good fights between the other boxers namely Takamura. I hope they will animate it! Will be looking forward to this in 2009.

Hopefully it's being animated by Madhouse again, don't want another Gunslinger Girl 2nd season fiasco again, it wasn't animated by Madhouse it looked so badly animated.

One of my all time favorites... WOOT!

I would not want a remake... I watched the original series and I had nothing to complain about, it was still captivating. I'd prefer they make a whole new story and captivate me again. God damn this anime was good.
