1) does it matter? we're on animesuki and we converse with mostly western ppl. it's not "everyone" we care about, only the group of ppl that we talk to.
2)well then the makers are very unambitious and uncreative ppl. catering to a small group makes for a poor artistic sense.
i probably have to read the messages prior to the 3 i have read, so i'll edit this when i read.

1) I only bring it up because many people have a bad habit of assuming the "eight feet around them" constitutes some useful sampling of the rest of the world. One's alarm bells should sound the instant someone says "Everyone..."
2) No, the makers of anime are responding to the market in their *country* like most companies do that exist within a country. Hollywood makes movies for the USA primarily, Bollywood makes movies primarily for an Indian audience - this is no different. The Japanese market is first and foremost whom they need to make happy so they'll buy stuff.

1. AnimeSuki might be only a thousand or so people, but you might have a point if it reflects the anime-viewing community as a whole. Then again, there are oddities such as Gundam SEED.
2. Because I'm certain that, when you're producing a show for Comedy Central, you make sure it wouldn't be better placed on Discovery Channel...

and were your posts about those ppl? the only person that said anything about "everyone" was outfoXzero, and you didnt quote his message or reply to him in any form on the previous page.
and "buy stuff" is exactly the logic that makes the creators uncreative, lol. its all tied together.

1)i wasnt talking about the whole, i was talking about animesuki. and i think that is what matters. like, do you care what ppl think about clannad in russia? probably not, but i do.
2)genres and culture are very much diferent. yet you can maintain both and still be able to cater to ppl outside your country. this is tied to the "make money" thing i talked about replying to Vexx.

1. You are free to think what you want, but ultimately it is (usually) Japan that matters since the sales in that country dictate what swims and what sinks (IE, Gundam SEED Destiny if the American fanbase did indeed hate the original SEED that much).
2. I was being indirect because I was unsure of just how serious this part of the post was, but as Vexx said, the content produced is usually made for people of that country. To drive the point home a show that uses a lot of Japanese-culture humor like Gintama just flew over my head.

I've said my peace, I guess.

Well, to drive MY point home...sales in Japan dont matter, because we'll still get to watch ALL the shows with fansubs and judge for ourselves. AND there will always be shows like Ergo proxy, Evangelion, Furi kuri, tekkon kinkreet, various ghibli shit, etc...that most ppl will find to be the best thing ever even though living outside of japan. and japan will continue to make such things, despite or inspite its agenda.
ah, i just love talking on this forum. no sarcasm, ppl here really challenge me.

Except of course for the shows that don't get made, because of the show makers chasing Japanese sales.

You know like a version of Dragonauts where the second half doesn't head over a cliff looking for a power of love ending?

Fansubbers can only sub shows that are made. That is why sales in Japan matter to people on this board.

I'd love a third season of Big O for example, but the sales weren't there to make that happen.

So while I'm reasonably assured of more Fairy Tail and Railgun, I'm also assured of more shows revolving round personality free Harem leads.

I do not mean any offense to those who love these titles, but these are the titles I dislike.

Code Geass (too weird and angst ridden)
Haruhi Suzumiya (don't see what's good about it)
Oreimo (doesn't interest me)
Yosuga no Sora (YUCK!)
Kiss x Sis (DOUBLE YUCK!)
Seikon no Qwaser (same as above)
Naruto (too long. Don't think I can handle it)
Bleach (same as above)
D.N.Angel (mostly because of Mio Hio and her English dub voice)
One Piece (same as Naruto and Bleach)

K-ON: I honestly don't understand what's the point of this anime.
Mayoi Neko Overrun: Same like KeiOn
KissXsis/ToLoveRu: Yesterday ecchi, today ecchi, tomorrow ecchi. Sorry, I don't fancy that kind of anime.
Seitokai Yakuindomo: Not Seitokai no Ichizon

And the holy triforce of Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach. Too long. Repetitive. Every episode is like, a bad guy appears, and the main character kicks his ass.

<_< I'd hardly call Mayoi Neko Overrun a series "everyone seems to likes", even people like me who enjoyed, will generally admit the series had a lot of issues and poor execution in some episodes .

Negima, the fanbase in the TVTropes forum is annoying and I'll concede that heknows some Latin but other than that, it is not that interesting at all. My cousin simply called it 'Love Hina Hina with magic', I just say Harry Potter + Latin + harem+ Love Hina = Negima. It doesn't escape its harem trappings despite its genre shift.

High School of the Dead.

Ecchi I can stand, but when it spiraled out of control I just stopped watching t. Just like SAMURAI GIRLS, I really don't have the time to watch mindlessly at boob flopping and conveniently torn clothing.

Everyone does seem to like High School of the Dead, and I have to admit I liked it at first too, but episode 7 was just....

Love the characters and the storyline, just can't stand the ecchi.

Death Note, I thought it was only average at best. Of course I only saw the first few episodes, maybe it gets better later on, but those episodes certainly didn't make me want to find out.

Cowboy Bebop, I liked it, but it wasn't as good as I'd been led to believe. Plus, the film bored me to tears.

Chobits, I couldn't even get past the first episode.
