Well if that's the case then Welcome to the NHK is probably the most non-cliché show EVER... (so far the series has 2 episodes subbed)

Spoiler for Minor Spoiler - nothing important:

The main character is a total idiot... he's also a hikimori or whatever it's spelled... oh and he's a NEET too... from what I can tell that apparently means he's afraid of contact with other people... actually he's afraid of even going outside...

Anyway... in the 2 episodes so far... no miracle has happened and we just get to see how much of a retard he is... more and more in each episode...

Ohh yeah... there is this girl...
But anyway... he's still a loser... and dreams a lot... not to mention he has some weird perverted imagination (is that what they call Otaku )... anyway he seems to have been normal some time in the past...

The show is apparently about how he manages to go back to being normal...

The series is inspired by a novel... just like Suzumiya Haruhi :D

Welcome to NHK and The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi are the most non-cliche recent animes.

Ever? hmm... there's a few. At the time it was made NGE was pretty original I think. Green Legend Ran is pretty original.

I like animes where the bad guys win in the end, i dunno why, maybe cos it doesn't happen too often, since in nearly everything (anime, cartoons, movies etc) the bad guy always gets his/her ass kicked, or they somehow magically convert them into good guys.

I thought AIR was quite un-cliche.

Well why don't you just stop watching the anime before it finishes... or when the bad guy totally pwans the hero... I have to admit that for some anime that's my favourite moment

By "being different" do you mean breaking bottles with his bare hands...
I was quite impressed he managed that... I mean I know bottles break but WTF... the way he did it is equivalent to beating a person to death with a pillow...

I'm personally curios what the hell his problem is... he's afraid to go outside... but has no problem if it’s to go to that park... and how pathetic do you have to be to think the dog is planning evil against you...

I hear that there's a manga and that in the manga he's also a drug addict... to be honest with all the crap around about drugs... him not being a drug addict and still ending up like that is more disturbing... someone need to give him drugs... hmm... maybe that’s what the project is about... maybe the girl is a drug dealer (just kidding)
