When I think back on earlier episodes of Fate/Zero I recall Kariya calling Zouken a "vampire". Is he the same kind of vampire as Dead Apostles from Tsukihime?

He is practically immortal because can suck the life force from others to sustain himself, which is why he was called a vampire. I don't think he counts as human anymore either. Nothing to do with vampires or the Dead Apostles or anything else.

You can become a vampire through magecraft though. And there's not really any difference between Zouken and other vampires. ORT is considered a Dead Apostle simply because it has vampiric like properties right?

Yeah, I guess Zouken seems to fit DA characteristics pretty well too if you put it that way. Does he feed off of others using insects or something?

Might have something like that somewhere. But if something needs to be taken down without a trace his Sword of Rapture and greatest treasure, Ea, seems to be the best way to be sure.

But he's not literally a vampire like a Dead Apostle is. And yes, he uses his insects to possess and eat the life from others. But he doesn't need to do it that often (I believe we only know of him doing it once or twice in Heaven's Feel, and that's just because he keeps getting curb stomped).

That helps, thanks and to anyone else who contributed answering. I originally asked the question to see if it was one of the things that connected Fate(yet to play the VN) and Tsukihime in the same universe to be honest.

I asked this in the Fate/Zero BD changes and additions thread, but got redirected here.

I just finished watching (listening? Reading?) the Drama CD, and it made me wonder why Kiritsugu didn't have Acht just make another Grail vessel so Iri wouldn't have to die during the war. If i remember correctly, when Kiritsugu suggested Iri run away, he said at most making another vessel would just be a small inconvenience.

I'd say Kotomine's actions in HF and Rin's mention of the Clock Tower in UBW and HF connects them more than anything else in the series. Though I think Shirou's boss (who shows up once for all of 20 seconds) is in either Tsukihime or KnK.

If it's anything like the vessel was for Ilya in FSN, then making another vessel would require removing Iri's heart, so she'd still die. I haven't watched/listened to the Drama CD yet, but I'd be more likely to believe Kiritsugu just doesn't know wtf he's talking about.

They are all connected and governed by the same universe, the Nasuverse! After you play F/SN, you will find out since characters from Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai are mentioned or referred to.

Oh yeah, forgot there's a reference to one at the end of HF too. So yeah, Heaven's Feel has most of the references.

Just because one is the future version of another does not mean that he will top the other. Nor does his inevitable future not being able to top himself mean anything, as he himself set the bar for GAR.
