Hitagi has less trouble than I expected taking down Aria. I guess Shana didn't really help Aria much after all. Shana still goes on to win cleanly over Kuroyukihime. I thought Kuroyukihime would do a bit better but it's not really a bad performance.
We're finally up to the 4-way Round 2 match where Rea and Tsukihi will face each other once again to try and advance. This time they've got Yamada Aoi to worry about. Even though Poplar choked and got eliminated, I still have faith in Yamada's abilities. It won't be easy, but Yamada should win. This is the final match for the Saimoe 2007 champion Furude Rika. While K-On isn't strong enough to make a run at another championship, they are still quite strong. Neither Nazuna nor Rika should be able to beat Mio. Even if I know it won't happen, I'll still hope on a miracle. Votes: Sanka Rea Furude Rika Predictions: Yamada Aoi Akiyama Mio

Hitagi advances! Also nice to see Shana continue to burn a path, for what could very well be the final run of her Saimoe career.
For the next set of matches, my votes would go to: Rea - Taking responsibility! Rika - Ni-paaa~! Need I say more? Will Rika be able to overthrow destiny once again and avoid the fate of the other former champions who have already fallen in Round 2?

Kuroyukihime looked like one of the more overrated characters of SaiMoe this year. But if you're going to go down swinging, it better be against a couple of ISML competitors in Shana (2channel) and Hitagi (Anizone) rather than getting upset by a nobody a la Kana Minami over Mio Akiyama a few years ago.
And speaking of Mio...assuming the votes are valid, she's doing the work.

If Tsukihi Araragi prevails in this contest, it's a free pass. Aha. Now I think this is some strategic voting on the part of the Saki nation. And if Aoi somehow rallies here, it would be an upset if she progresses to the Group G Final over Ika or Ako.

Tsukihi redeems herself after nearly losing to Rea in Round 1. She manages first place while Rea is in last. I didn't think Yamada could lose this match but maybe I should have given it more thought after Poplar lost. I expected Mio to win her match by a larger margin but it's still a win. After a long road, this match should put an end to Rika's Saimoe career. It was great to see you again but not you can finally rest.
One more Saki match to close the round with plenty more to look forward to in Round 3. Before I would have been worried that Ika Musume could beat Ako. However, after seeing what Kuro and Yuu did to their challengers I can't really see Ako losing. The top Saki characters are too strong for Ika Musume to beat. Even if Ika Musume does upset Ako, it's barely a loss for the Saki fanbase. They had to abandon either Nodoka or Ako in the Block finals anyways. Elsie and Marika are decently strong but Sena is one of the strongest non-Saki characters. Sena should win this one. Votes: Atarashi Ako Kashiwazaki Sena Predictions: Atarashi Ako Kashiwazaki Sena

Picks: 1-1 (14-16, 68-58)
Predictions: 1-1 (20-10, 91-35) Nice to see Tsukihi take the win, but I'm surprised that Yamada was so far back. Picks: Ako, Sena Predictions: Ako, Sena I really hope Ako wins against Ika-chan. That'd make Block G so delicious.

I never thought that my favorite Saki character would have this much trouble in today's match. Maybe I overestimated her because of her second best performance in the prelims, or just underestimated Ika Musume.
By the way, I think Ako is still stronger than Nodoka, plus she is the new character. She should win if they meet in Group Final. While Nodoka has two-year experience in semi-finals, it also proves that she probably can't go further than that. On the other hand, if Ako can't beat Ika Musume, then Nodoka is not likely to do so, either. |
