Based on what I've read so far, I think the goblin champions and lords are this story's equivalent for orcs.
That's another reason I think of the champions and lords as orcs because aside from the literate part, what you said is how I would describe them. Warcraft's version of them didn't seem odd to me at all. I'm used to smart Orcs like Gazghkull Thraka from 40k. Stories where orcs aren't stupid but are just so bloodthirsty or hateful they let it get the best of them. I've never played D&D so I don't know how they are portrayed there and the ones from Skyrim are like all the other races, just secluded. I think the ones in GS(assuming champs and lords are orcs) are the first ones I can think of that are driven by lust so much. |

Huh, if I'm not wrong, then GS and his group visited something similar to the Thundertree ruins in chapter 16. What a coincidence.
(My DND party also just reached Thundertree and just finished our first encounter with frigging Venomfang)

In Welsh, Orc is mean Pig, Tolkien's orc still has pig noise (just be flatten to it's face), but early orcs in 70~80s D&D is designed as pigman with full pig nose. Most of orc designs are follow Tolkien's orc, only Japanese still use pigman for orc today. Also, Tolkien's orc and goblin term is used as same in earlier works. And current orc's designs is older than LOTR films, example: Warcraft 1 and 2 (in 90s), Warhammer 40k and Fantasy table top games (in late 80s), The Hobits is created in 50s, as same as LoTR books, far earlier than D&D; LoTR films just follow the concept of the books with more twist (lack of typical greenskin).

I think it's difficult since it become his doctrine for that. Changing someone's doctrine is way more difficult than suffering ptsd. When Orcbolg say he will slay goblins, he will slay them until none left.

I think it would be interesting to see GS start adapting his skill and knowledge to other monsters as well. The man doesn't have to give up his vengeance against goblins to do that. After all, we have seen him fought off the ogre
