I am more intrested in the format it can play. Currently I just got a new car, so I have not had the $ to install all my audio equipment. I put in the head unit so I can listin to MP3's but that is it so far.

Is the car yours or your parents? Meaning did you pay for all of the car.

Anyways, show us some pics of your car so we can all have a good look at your ride

kj that screen looks really nice!

As for my car, I only have a Kenwood hu. The music I play in my car doesn't need subs and amps...

Hello everyone

I am wondering does there any car head unit have a build in HDD and also a memory slot of card such as SD or memory sticks. They works just like digital camera but for music to transfer from pc or home audio system directly into car head unit. I think while MP3 enable head unit still popular , Head unit with HDD and memory sticks function would be the next genetaion for car audio.....

but .... where can i find some head unit like that ??

Thanks for you help....

Er..head unit?

If you need that kind of storage, I would recommend getting an iPod or something along with an Aiwa headunit or similar which has a front input jack.

Spring for an in-car hard drive
Audiophiles with money to spend will want to go with an MP3 player just for the car. Considering that almost no one is buying them, there are a surprising number of alternatives available, ranging from Denison's DMP3 and SSI America's Neo Car Jukebox to MPTronix's MuzicVault and PhatNoise's PhatBox. These are all variations on the same idea: Each one has a hard drive, ranging in size from 20 to 120 gigabytes, that you load up with music (transferring it using a USB cable from your PC) and then pop into the trunk of your car (or underneath a seat). You navigate your collection from a special faceplate (though the MuzicVault can be also controlled wirelessly using a Bluetooth-enabled PDA). Most aren't cheap—prices range from $350 to $1,000, and the devices usually have to be connected to a pre-existing car stereo system. In addition, they often have to be professionally installed, though the Phatbox does come as an option in several new Volkswagens and Audis.

Though the costs are higher, the advantages are much better sound quality (since the MP3 player is part of the stereo system) and easier navigation (you can control the system from your dashboard rather than having to squint at your player's tiny screen). However, the biggest advantage to having a dedicated in-car MP3 player might simply be that you don't have to hook up a portable player to the car stereo every time you want to listen to something.

Your most future-forward option is Rockford's Omnifi Auto Digital Media Player, which, like the others, is a 20 gigabyte hard drive that you mount in your car. Unlike the others, however, the Omnifi has an optional Wi-Fi receiver so you can wirelessly transfer music from your PC. Just park your car in your garage at night, and it can automatically have all your new music on it when you leave for work in the morning. Of course, even this system has its drawback: If your garage isn't within range of your home's wireless network, you must pop out the Omnifi's hard drive and hook it up to your PC to copy files the old-fashioned way. (The wireless receiver, unfortunately, stays in the car.)

I have a OmniFi DMP1 that i have had for a while now.
20GB hard drive and it has WiFi, you can set it to auto sync with the music on your computer. It's really cool mine syncs every night at 2AM.

If you want music to be accurate than it requires subs and amps whether its classic, country, jazz, rock, rap, it doesn't matter. I actually use to do this as a job.

I don't have a setup anymore beyond what's stock. My ride is too small now and its all additional weight that I really don't need or care for.

My old setup was 4 Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5s with an Audiobahn 4 channel and a single Alpine Type R 10" run by a mono. Pioneer DEHp6400 headunit. It wasn't the best stuff, but it sounded good and I got it dirt cheap.

Hello Everyone

Thanks for the advice about the HDD head unit, but i am wondering are they available to buy from UK, and if i buy them oversea will they fill UK Version??

However, i do not need a screen, i just want a Head unit with Slot that i can upload mp3 into the head unit's HDD.....

And how much are they cost in £ ??

Are they hard to install ??

I have another Question would like to ask, My 7-seater comes with a pre-installed Navigation system with screen and everything. It also comes with a normal CD-changer. I wonder is it possible to just change the normal CD-changer into a mp3 enable CD-changer without changing the head unit to play mp3? Does it work that way or i have to change the head unit as well as the CD-changer....

Please help....

Don't get apline subs they SUCK.

If you have money get Adire of Autobhaun audio subs. If not JL 12W7 ONE will sound better than 2 apline Type Rs.

HOWEVER get an Apline deck the BEST you can get, and either an Autobhaun or Apline amp. Anything else is a waste of money

Um audiobahn subs sound like crap, or atleast every one i have heard.
Alpine's sound quite nice for what they are and at the price i was gunna get them at where a good deal. (2 12" subs for 150$) But i have changed my sub i'm going to be going with a single 12" brahma in a sealed Box.
And as for the amp i've already got it. (well it's in the mail) JBL amps are some of the better amp's, have you seen the newer jbl/Crown amps? How about a 6000W mono amp? Anyhow i got my amp for 160$ which is a very good deal.
