Having problems with VLC player

Last week I downloaded the new version of the vlc player and I'm having alot of problems with it when I play videos I've downloaded.

The video lags, skipping, pausing and pixelating (strangely it usually makes it through the opening dialogue of haruhi then messes up badly on the opening music), before you assume its a problem with my system I doubt thats the case because the videos played perfectly on the older version of vlc but its struggling now.

Any suggestions?

-----------------

ok so the problem wasnt solved, I switched to windows media player classic, it plays just fine but theres no subtitles, any ideas?

solution:
don't use the newest version if the older one's still do their job fine

always keep recon with the fact that a new version release can contain bugs and glitches so stick with a stable old version until you can tell for sure that a newer one is better
this happens with all programs but after a couple updates most of the glitchyness is gone

Ok thats all well and good but the problem is I had to wipe my laptop because I was getting a blue screen of death so I upgraded to windows 7 and didnt have a copy of it.

and I cant find my old copy on my home computer.

So does anyone have an older copy of vlc player?

please and thank you.

Give smplayer a try. It's free, open-sourced, and uses its own codecs and splitters so it won't interfere with anything else you have installed.

Use CCCP and Media Player Classic HomeCinema that comes with it instead. To deal with the "no subtitles"-problem that exists on Win7, in MPC, go to Options -> External filters, Add DirectVobSub (normal or auto-loading version, shouldn't matter) and set it to Prefer.
