Another add on!!
Okay, okay, so I have a bad memory. Here are two more that totally rule and portray their respective series perfectly:
OP: ROD OVA -- That jazz/electronica!! Screams mystery... ED: Noir -- Haunting, but the video goes well with it too. I'd nominate the OP for the series too, but I'm not a fan of J-Pop and I found it a bit too predictable. |

I'm not saying that this is the "Best anime intro ever", but one that comes to mind was the OP animations for Chrno Crusade - some really neat effects used, and each one was a bit different (showed scenes from the episode). The reason it comes to mind is because I found it annoying that the OP was "standardized" on the R1 DVDs - the fact that they included the original OPs for each episode as an extra really makes you wonder why they were too lazy to edit each one individually (I know they had to change "Chrno" to "Chrono").
Other shows that come to mind with good OP animation sequences are Mahoromatic, Kiddy Grade, Ai Yori Aoshi, Midori no Hibi, and I'm sure there's a lot more. I really like the way they did the OP in Kanon (with a short and long version). Most "fitting" OP sequence probably goes to Azumanga Daioh (insane, just like the show), and most unique OP, in my mind, probably goes to Chobits. And, from what I've heard, the most unexpected OP probably goes to the new Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ anime (which I haven't had a chance to watch yet). BTW, in case anyone wants to focus on the music side of the discussion, there is already a thread about Most Fitting OP/ED in the Music forum. |

now this is opening/ending ANIMATION right?
cuz unless you say ANIMATION it'll get moved to the music forum and merged with the best OP/ED thread there i'd have to say: 1) Tsukuyomi: HAZUKI IS CUTE 2) Bleach: the intro matches the feel and style of the series in ways that are difficult to describe (take a look at some of the stand-alone art the manga artist does i.e. chapter title pages and you'll know what i mean) 3) Tsukihime: first off, i loved the Tsukihime soundtrack, so the intro got points there, and it set the stage for the anime 4) Tenjou Tenge: 2 words: BOMB AHEAD! (Bob and Aya dancing=good) 5) Naruto opening 2: it's just a classic in my mind, the poses and scenes were perfect 6) Monster: the music is very similar in feel to Tsukihime's, plus the animation in the intro feels similar (they're both dark and mysterious anime with some very likeable characters too) 7) Narutaru: just because it's freakin' nuts 8) DearS: this one wins because of the music: "I'M YOUR SLAVE" but has *ahem* nice animation too 9) Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: it's very artfully done, and i've always loved their character designs 10) 2x2=Shinobuden: really difficult to describe why... |

Realize(Gundam Seed 4th)- I love openings that try and get in as many things and characters as possible, doesn't matter if they're fighting or just standing there. This one did that perfectly, great song as well.
The rest of the Gundam Seed openings, and the Destiny opening are great too, but I didn't feel they all needed a separate explanation, as they're pretty similar. I just chose Realize cause it's my favorite song out of the bunch. - Haruka Kanata(Naruto 2nd)- Amazing. Just amazing. My reasons are similar to mine for Realize. Coming after Rocks, which I hated, because it only showcased 4 characters, this opening blew me away. All the genins get time in the spotlight, I just loved it. Again, it didn't hurt that the song was awesome either. - Go!!(Naruto 4th)- Once again, showcasing all the characters gets a huge thumbs up from me. I don't like the song as much as the other two I've mentioned, but the visuals are top notch. - Cruel Angel's Thesis(Eva)- how can you not love this? Fits the series perfectly, there's nothing more to say. - Reckless Fire(Scryed)- Another great visual-audio combo. I loved how there were 4 or 5 slightly different sequences, that's a big plus in my book. - Others I don't really feel like explaining: Cloud Age Symphony(Last Exile) Tomorrow(FullMetal Panic!) Hemisphere(RahXephon) |

As for Anime, Elfen Lied intro is really good, i love the art style, forgot what's the formal name for it. Surrealism? (I don't know much about arts) The music is excellent too. As for the best, I say Saint Seiya. It's the perfect intro for a fighting anime and it makes me so pumped up. |
