I don't think it makes sense to suspect her of anything (despite her working at the clinic). If it's supernatural, then she's clearly angered the viiage god. If it's just a cannibal cult, then in Chapter 1 she shouldn't have dissapeared (I'll even allow the idea that its not yet confirmed she's dead in Chapter2). If it's some other kind of serial killer, conspiracy thing... well I dunno.

But man is she cold! Grabbing thoose kids and getting them involved in all that...

...though, why was Shion so intereted in following them and going to the storehouse in the firstplace?

I'm going to jump of a limb here and say that Oishi-san the cop is somehow involved. I'll explain why. So far, he is the only person that hasn't had a signficant character change. He remains the some cop that he was in the first arc. Some one suggested the fact the he never tries to hide his conversations with Keichi either. I think he is using Keichi in some way or another.

Next thing I notice is that Rika and Mion seem to care greatly about Keichi (yes, even though there is alot of speculation between Shion and Mion, the only anger I have seen from Mion is jealousy, I don't think she hates her sister) so I don't see her deliberatly trying to lure Keichi into a death trap. Shion on the other hand, doesn't know Keichi very well at all, and seem to play around him just for kicks, or to make her sister jealous. Nothing wrong with that, I do that to my twin brother . But she would be much more likely to do something right now than would Mion (although honestly, I think both are innocent, Shion seemed somewhat afraid about being 'demoned away' on that phone call).

So in regards to the opening scene, and this speculation since I don't know what will happen in the next episode, but if Keichi and Shion were to be 'demoned away', or perhaps killed, and then if Rika-chan killed herself in front Mion, then I think that would have a psycological affect on Mion (who has been demonstarted as having a weaker personality that she puts on, losing say 3-4 people she loves or cares about would be difficult to anyone) and send her into insanity (thus the scary laugh at the beginning). I don't know, but there could be so much deception in that first scene that it's hard not to speculate what could've really happened. All though there is a large emphasis on Mion and Shion and there behavior through out the episodes, I just can't imagine either being guilty just yet.

I know it must be a lil' freaky hearing you could be taken away by a curse.. but Keiichi really didn't have to shout at Shion like that. ^^;

You think you understand parts of whats going on after the first chapter, but then this chapter just turns everything around.

If Mion is the heir, then she has to know what is going on. So since Takano made contact with Shion, it would make sense for them to switch so that Mion would know what Takano is up to. So, Mion disguised as Shion spies on Takano and Tomitake. Shion has a temper and goes into yakuza mode when it flairs, sort of what "Mion" did at the temple when asking if Keiichi was with "Shion". Whereas, "Shion" at the temple remained calm when the break-in was occuring, but was clearly upset and still manages to pull a little trick on Keiichi at the end. For this to happen, both of the twins would be in it together. Perhaps, Shion didn't think her sister was stupid enough to actually enter the warehouse.

Shion emphasized that the community sticks together. So then Shion disguised as Mion was grilling Keiichi at school to make sure that he wasn't involved. She then told the townsfolk to get them off his back.

Shion was at the library with Keiichi and on the phone at the end of the episode where he finally confessed. Her expression did not bode well for Keiichi.

If Oyashiro is a real god, then the innocent twin has nothing to fear.

O.O how was this ep considered gross compare to ep 3 & 4? But I really thought at the end it was Mion tryin to call K1 as Shion cuz maybe she suspected K1 didn't tell her the truth thats y there's that hang up @ the end? Ah I dont know I needa watch more. I dont think have ever watched a series that fried my brain more than this one and i mean in the creepy sort sleep with the lights on oh god i dont wanna die way. I kinda confused about somethings going on right now because of the whole twin thing. They good a job with switching the twins around. So you keep asking your self is tha Mion or Shion and we already know that Shion is very good deciving peopple. K1 now knows whats in the temple store house (as if he really wanted to know in the first place) But did it really have to be cannibalism the fact the term cooking tools was used just makes it even F*&% up.

we are in the alternate reality where K1 prob. won't go Lil' Slugger on Rena and Mion. Setup is wrong for that outcome so far. K1 (scr***d, definitely needs to leave the area), Rena, and Mion are still alive. Tanako and Tomitake bit the dust again. Rika will soon bite the dust (op. of ep. 5) and Shion is scr***d.

Tanako is really creepy how she was so excited about the curse and the warehouse.

It was odd that-

1)Oishi came to the table with Keiichi and Shon (I assume) in the library, and wasn't worried about a Sonozaki being there.

2)Then once Shion left, he proceeded to tell Keiichi about the Sonozaki Yakuza situation. Shion could have turned back to eavasdrop on the conversation. Also there were other people within speaking distance of the two, that's pretty dumb.

I believe that Oishi's line of knowing about Keiichi and the others at the ritual storehouse, was a ploy to put Keiichi on notice that he better cooperate with him. So yeah, you might as call him K-Bait.

The more I think about this series.....the more I think about it some more.

I really do believe we're seeing some of the consequences of sibling
rivalry here. But that's not it.

Mion might be the heir, but Shion acts like she owns the place.
Has the command of villagers in EP 5 to protect Keiichi.

Flaunts her confidence in being able to "have" Keiichi if she wants.
Deliberately making Mion jealous and enjoying it.

Does she like Keiichi for herself or is she just making her sister jealous?
Maybe a little of both.

I'm thinking "Shy Shion" in Angel Mort may have actually been Mion.

Imagine this exchange:
Shion:"Work my shift or I'll expose your dark secrets."
Mion: "I'll have to wear that sexy outfit though..."
Shion: "Hahahahahaha!"

Shion hasn't been shy since that point so I doubt it was her.

What if the "switcharoo" we've spoken about here is actually
something she is instigating?

What if the alleged things Mion has done ("Mion has many enemies")
were actually done by Shion?

It would be perfect: Devious sister uses her similarity to her sister
to perform all kinds of nasty deeds and blames it on the sister.
She remains "innocent" and respected in town.

She could probably even frame Mion for things she's done and I'd
say wouldn't be put past blackmail either. "If you don't go along
with my desires I'll do something to expose something you'd be
put away for...." We just don't know.

Mion might be the "heir" but who would know if Shion was
running the show? It fits her personality.

Mion - brings tea for Keiichi but when confronted by her sister in
what must have been a painful way plays the clown to save face
for herself.

Talk about brutal. Someone will pay for that I'm sure

I think we're going to see some seriously ugly sisterly battles
coming up if I'm right.

Takano: Is that woman creepy or what? She talked about
ritual disembowelings the way other women talk about shoes
or diamond rings.

I'm thinking that she may be involved. I don't think she's dead.
The photographer was expendable to a person like that.

She's a nurse. Why would a nurse be researching such things?

Something about her stinks to high heaven and it's not Chanel #5.
What is her real motivation?

Think about it: the last person she was with was dead photographer.
She's good with syringes, allegedly.

We know what happened to someone injected with a syringe in Episode 4 and
the same "clawing your throat out" behavior happened there too.

Oishi: Opportunist. Using K1 as bait to attract....whomever.
I think he may be involved in a particular way, possibly.
Career advancement. Solving the big case in town before retirement.

I see several factions happening:

Police <-> Yakuza <-> Supernatural Elements <-> Townspeople

One more bit - the end where K1 yelled at Shion on the phone like
a LEETLE GURL - Bad move for you, Mr. K.

She confronted him with this I am guessing to see his response:

If he'd been a little more canny about it he would have played
his cards better.

Might be deadsville soon. Or not. He should have hooked up
with Mion when he had the chance.

AND:
Another thing about this episode - when he was asked what
he thought of the perfomance of Rika, and he said "Oh, it was
perfect" and the reaction of everyone made it appear she made
what possibly might be an unforgiveable mistake which
might be why she self destructs in episode eight I'm guessing.

I'm guessing it will have to do with restoring honor to the local
demigod, etcetera. And even though it looks like Mion in
that scene, it might very well be Shion.

Can't wait for the next one - this anime is hot hot hot!

I've re-watched episode six, cause I was interested in the this twin switch theory, and I found out that the easiest way to tell which sister is which is through the voices. Mion is a little louder, Shion sounds more calm and minipulative... And this holds true through both episode 5-6. Not that it's that big a deal, but I don't think it's that easy to manipulate another persons voice, sure they are twins, but still I'm kinda speculative on that theory now.

The only one I wonder about is the phone conversation, though I don't see why the change in clothes would happen.

OK. Here's my take on the events:

As far as I can see, until after the Shrine, Mion/Shion were as they claimed to be. So, I think that the storage house scene was as it seemed; though the fact that Shion seemed to be so eager to show Keiichi what was inside is a little fishy.

Next, how did Mion know that they were at the warehouse, and how come everyone found Keiichi by the stairs so easily? I think they were watching him. I note that you didn't see any of the characters standing in the crowd; they could have easily not been there.

Who invited Keiichi to the library? Was it Mion, or Shion? I can't tell; it could be either of them. Her strange behaviour seems to indicate it was Mion, but it could just as easily been Shion.

Now, what was Ooishi's intention? What did the policeman tell him? What was that last comment about? I think that there's a lot more to Ooishi than it first seeems. Indeed, his behaviour during Onikakushi-hen was also odd; there was something fishy about that phonebooth scene, and he didn't respond normally to being told that Keiichi was nearly run over. I have no idea what the policeman told him, however... I have a sneaking suspicion he might be in on the consipracy.

Finally, the phone scene. Who was it? It could be either of them, no matter about the clothes; it is, however, the same person that Keiichi met in the library, as she said she would call. If it's Mion, she's trying to get him to admit what happened. If it's Shion, who knows? Is she as innocent as she seems? Especially considering the Yakuza connection? That last look on the girl's face before she hangs up; psycho Mion? Or betrayed Shion? Or even psycho Shion?

If it's Shion, I strongly feel that Keiichi will be betrayed. If it's Mion...I don't know, somehow even though she asked all those questions, I feel that Mion still has some sort of saving grace about her. I somehow feel that Shion is the 'dodgy' one in Watanagashi-hen. Why do they live apart...there's definitely some rivalry or something there. Who has the 'true' feelings for Keiichi? Shion or Mion?

Addenda:

Indeed, what's odd about this chapter is that we haven't seen anyone go 'psycho' (with the eyes, etc.); it's been implied, but so far, no crziness.

Secondly, remember what Takano said about 'half-demon blood'? Rather suspicious. She seems a little to interested; I wouldn't be surprised if there was more behind her than at first glance

Next, what's Tomitake's motivation? Why is he helping Takano?

About Tomitake: From the TIPS, he's extremely paranoid about his identity. He goes by a false name, has no license, no identifiable information. What's up with this? And why does he come to Hinamizawa so often?

This is quite interesting:

About Oishi: He's remarkably flippant about the murders, isn't he? And he doesn't seem like the nicest person on earth...The tips have really roused my suspicion.

Oishi: "Sure, it'll be best if nothing happens but....be wary that it is going to happen again. It will be ideal to prevent the thing from happening, but there's probably no use. One person is going to die and another is gonna go missing. There's no use denying it. Unfufufufu!"

Mion/Shion?

Kei: "Anyway, you two look very similar. I probably won't be able to tell the difference between you and Mion if you tied your hair back like her"
Shion: "Well duh, we're identical twins! Perhaps you won't! Ahahaha. Ah, the memories. I remember we used to change our clothes and no one would suspect us! We've used to change places many times in the past to deceive people!"

Hmmm...

According to that document, the villagers of Onigafuchi were doing this ritual to instigate fear into them. Girls and children turned pale along with trepidation while hemophobics vomited at the sight and the stench of blood. Yet, they were all forced to watch the feast (mutilation process).

This puts a whole new perspective into the light. Before reading this hypothesis, I had the impression that the villagers of Onigafuchi were "high" as they did their acts. Before this, I believed that the villagers dissected the victims like fish to reinforce their belief that they were superior to "low-life humans." However, if the villagers did not attain some sort of "high" but acquired "fear" instead, then meaning of this ritual changes dramatically.

If so, then the possibility of the people in power using this as a propaganda tool to keep people under their control comes into play.

The most powerful people who controlled Onigafuchi were The Big Three Households known as the gosanke. Further research on the gosanke will be necessary to get down to the truth of the Onigafuchi village.

Guess who? Yep, the Sonozakis.

The villagers?

How superstitious are they? Do they really want to appease Oyashiro-sama's curse? Or is it something else?
