After the Great Destruction/Apocalypse, Arkadia the First traveled from the distant/remote West with his own people and came upon this land, here he founded this country and built it up with the help of the surviving people of this land. But similarly they also believed that there was that 1% that cannot be explained by science. This is most likely that 1% they were talking about.

Rio: And with that, the misunderstood ghost left. When we opened our eyes the next moment, we found that we were at the same old abandoned building as we were before. That strange room full of ideogram books had completely utterly disappeared. Without speaking another word to each other, we carried the still sleeping Kureha to the Time Telling Fortress. Kureha slept through the entire day and when she awoke she could not recall/remember anything about the ghost possessing her at all. It seems that Kanata and Noel, not wanting upset her, decided not to speak of what happened on that day to her. Same for Felicia… and for me too, because everyone decided to ignore it, it feels as though the events of that day are fading away from our memories. Even now, I think to myself, was it all just a dream? But I have proof that what happened was not a dream right before me. An old letter addressed in ideograms, with ideogram words written full of fear/nervousness and full of feelings. I haven’t opened it and I don’t intend to. In any case, it’s in ideograms so I can’t read anyways. But if I were to open the envelope, I would know exactly what was written on it anyway. Without a doubt, it will have these words written there, “I like/love you”.

well not exactly, but the typical moeblob character design can lead you away from the decent original plot with warring mecha, drama, etc.
Also for the amount of content this show has in it, buying the whole series dvd is a good deal I think
I was crying of laughter within the first five minutes: Rio's not-at-all-suspicious way of getting Kanata away from the basement, Filicia kicking Rio, and getting everybody drunk.
Yumina was a nice mixture of badass and adorable, and got some back story. I don't recall if this becomes the earliest chronological mention of Romans being monotheists while Helvetians are polytheists.
Loved Noël's (somewhat creepy) smile and laughter as she's demonstrating the power of SCIENCE!
Felicia's look of "you gonna get raped" was classic. Hahaha. Now I wonder what happened to Kureha.

I was laughing non-stop, and Noel's "dark side" was revealed. Never understimate the power of SCIENCE, especially in the hands of an innocent looking girl.
Does Yumina have an exact official age? (other than apparently being a teenager). I did find it a bit strange that the thing that made her protest of alcohol was seing Kureha flambéing meat. I'm no chef, but isn't the point of that to keep the flavour while removing the alcohol itself?
Rewatching notes: Kureha points out that Filicia erased the events of the previous day. So I guess it kind of makes sense that it wasn't shown in the first run. When asked by Naomi how she found out about the distillery in episode 8, Kanata blushes and says that maybe she'll get around to telling that story some other time
Wow, that was fun. Seriously silly (and parodying all those over-dramatic deaths in war movies!), but I can't say that I wasn't smiling the whole episode.

I really should stop asking questions to which I consequently happen to come across the answers to without actively looking for them... According to the DVD booklet, she's 16. So older than Kanata and Noël, yet younger than Rio. Makes sense.
