JDrama is so GOOD

I mean they are just so interesting. I know that there are quite a bunch of sites who feel the same way as i do but as for fansubbing in English theres hardly any.

I never liked the word Drama in fact i stayed away from the genre. So i'm your typical guy who like action and good story.

But japanese drama or TV Series are different from my American shows. to be honest i watched my first one which is BEAUTIFUL LIFE becuase i wanted to know why japanese act and talk so weird in anime's. and now i understand why LOL

if any knows any sites or groups who fansub japanese tv series can you please post them. it would be of great help to me. and if i can seed and shows you are interested in i would do it.

I only know a couple like JEM, Japan-tv or d-addicts
I look at reviews on Jdorama.com

I with you on this one, I love j-drama. But I don't know anymore rescores than what you mentioned.

I just watched "Beautiful Life" a little while ago, I did like it very much. Another one I loved that I just watched is "Long Vacation". ( I really like Yamaguchi Tomoko and her character in this one.)

I also really liked "Where is Love" (the first subbed one I saw) and "Good Luck" ( As a aircraft mechanic, I may be a little biased about this one).

My favorite J-D would be "Shota no Sushi". Based on the manga, it has a good story.

I did some search on Japanese drama. Very interesting…. Actually, I come across the theme song of this drama called “the 101st proposal.” I love it! Can someone please tell me where I can find the CD of this song? It would be nice if you can share some info about if the drama is available (fansub or licensed), i.e., which company licensed it and how to get it, etc? Anyway, I think that song is just great.

古っ!っていうか古すぎてマジなつかしい~

"101st Proposal" is most likely (which I am certain it is) was the major hit drama back in 1991 called "101-kaime no puropo-zu" featuring Takeda Tetsuya, Asano Atsuko, and Eguchi Yousuke.

I believe, if I remember correctly, the song you are looking for is the big hit song by Chage & Aska "SAY YES." The group doing the theme for this drama practically made them famous.

Summer Snow is the best j-drama I've ever seen, and I like it a lot more than I like GTO Live Action. Good Luck was a god one too, probably 3rd on my list. Beautiful Life would be 4th. Lets see, what else have I watched....I watched the first episode of Long Vacation and I didn't like that snobby model bitch so I never bothered to download the 2nd episode.

Obviously I am also a big J-drama fan. I really recommend you check out Summer Snow! It is so funny and lovable and heart-warming and everything American TV could never even dream to be. I've also dabbed into some C-Drama and K-drama too. Try watching Triumph in the Skies which is a C-Drama about people working for an airline and their relationships and such (similar to Good Luck, but I think I like TitS a little better). K-Drama I watched All About Eve for the first episode, and I didn't really like the main character because I thought she was a pompous bitch. I get all my J/C/K-drama from Japan-TV, but please let me know if there are other sites/groups out there!

If you don't mind me asking, what aspect of our dramas appeals to you? What makes our dramas unique from your countries' dramas? Are there any similarities, differences?

They are about stories of triumph and overcoming handicaps/disabliities (A Beautiful Life, Good Luck). They are stories which reach down into your heart and the actors/actresses make you feel like they are real people (Summer Snow, I cried so hard at the end). They are pure; uncorrupted by America's hollywood scene and our 'reality television' shows that make me want to destroy the human race for its sheer stupidity. Its so hard for me to describe how i feel about them to you. I feel like they play with my heart. When something sad happens, I'm sad. When something joyous happens, I'm filled with glee. When your emotions reflect the material you are watching, that is something really special (and some anime can even have this effect too). You Japanese/Asian people have no idea how good you have it

I don't know if Japanese dramas are the same, but I've watched several Korean dramas, and they are so melodramatic. I mean, every show has to have at least someone suffering from an incurable disease, it seems. My main favorite shows are still HK chapter shows. All these years and they still haven't lost their appeal to me.

That's a love and hate apeal to me when watching those kind of drama. It's so cliche, "I have few more months to live, please marry me and make me happy." >_<

The above reasons, plus at least to me there seems to be a better fusion of drama and comedy. There have been some very funny sitcoms, but anytime they have added drama it just falls flat, and vice versa. Also there is a element of "different", if two shows have equal quality the one that is "not the same thing you have seen a hundred times" will be the one that attracts you more.

Actually she is one of my favorite characters so far. She lightens up allot after the first ep., and actually is a very fun person. You might not like "Bus Stop" either then, the main female lead is even worse in that one. Only the first ep. is out yet, but I feel that she will change as the story progresses too. Over coming a personality handicap is sometimes as much a story as a physical handicap.

I've watched many J-Dorama, some that stood out (for me):

- 神様、もう少しだけ (Kami-sama, mou sukoshi dake)
- 魔女の条件 (Majo no jouken)
- ムコ殿 (Mukodono)
- Water Boys

Just to answer kj's question, I like j-dorama because they are short. 11-13 episodes, unlike those C-dramas and K-dramas that seem to drag on and on.

But to be frank, I have not been catching much the last few years.

The one J-dorama I would recommend is Power Office Ladies (and Power Office Ladies 2) starring Esumi Makiko. It's hilarious.

Other favs that I can think of now are:

- GTO (starring my fav actress Matsushima Nanako). Another hilarious series.
- Majo no Jouken (Matsushima Nanako again!). Well, if you like teacher-student love, take a look.
- Beach Boys (all right, my female friends keep on raving about it and my fav actor, Eguchi Yosuke, is in it). A slice of life type of drama. Very peaceful and fun.
- Mahiro no Tsuki (starring another fav actress of mine, Tokima Takako). What attracted me to J-dorama. Basically a look at rape and its repercussions. I saw it while I was working in Shanghai.
- Long Vacation (what attracted almost everyone I knew to J-dorama)
- Narita Divorce (interesting drama on marriage)

There's another one that I like but I have forgotten it's name. About a man meeting a woman on the eve of their respective wedding. They met later and started a "mental" affair. Very interesting drama.

There are some K-Dramas that are quite good.

I recently watched All In (I like the casino setting!) and Tomato.

Autumn Story, Winter Sonata, Summer Scent...

I'm studying Japanese, so I concentrate on J-Drama. But I watch all kinds
of CJK-Drama. The good ones anyway.

Ah so i guess nobody knows anymore sites that distributes Jdrama or tv series (other than the ones i've listed)
It is not that i don't mind paying for this in dvd but when i did some research
hardly any had enlish subtitles. Certainly not the shows that i wanted to see.

about american shows, one of the reason why i'm interested in watching jdrama is that it is "different". Something "new" to watch. In a way it kind of makes you interested in Japanese culture. LOL Globalisation can't be all that bad. i wonder if Americans would start watching more of Chinese media, then we wouldn't be so concerned about china.

I like J-drama because its shorter than most US television shows and it deals with ordinary people. Soap operas can go on for years and are way too melodramatic and unreal for my tastes. (Most of them have been on since my mother was a kid, and the actors mature and have families over the years on the show.)

The kind of drama shows that air in the US are usually about rich, incredibly beautiful people, like the recent show "The OC" about California rich kids and the "poor bad boy" caught up in it. It's just a fantasy life (with lots of incredibly sexy people) that most Americans like to dream about, but we can't really identify with. There also aren't many serious TV shows. We mostly have sitcoms like Friends. The only serious shows that are popular in the US are usually about crime (Law and Order, various murder mysteries).

J-drama (and Korean and Chinese drama series) seem so different from most stuff on US television. Its not episodic, like almost all of American television, which I also like. Something occurs to move the story along.

Reality TV also takes up soooo much prime-time programming. (Though funny enough, the pioneers of reality TV were European not American.) I guess that is, sadly, what we have instead of something like J-drama. Reality TV has linear plot development, ordinary people overcoming trials, and come in many different varities. I don't like the trashier shows, but some of them are so addictive and strangely interesting in a voyeuristic sort of way. Usually, it just amazes how incredibly stupid people are and makes me wonder if I act that stupid on a regular basis...

Really, the best programming on US television airs on cable channels like HBO. Since they are so expensive, they can air more risque, inventive shows.

I like British TV shows now and then for the same reasons.
