Just up dated my online TV schedule and it seems as if they canceled Toaru and is going to air a special disaster program.
It seems as if TV Tokyo will still air Gosick though.

That's Fukushima Daichi right?

I did read in the Asahi about warnings and fear about radiation leakage.

Nuclear pants would be awesome.

Anyway here's a slightly amusing little ditty (NSFW Sankaku duh), of course YMMV with what you consider to be amusing at a time like this.

USD-JPY fell close to 100 pips in the past few hours since the quake. Meaning which money is flowing into Japan.

If this is a red herring (false rally), no amount of salvage by the banks and finance ministry is going to do anything to help. The JPY already dropped to real low this week and only rallied due to the quake. If money flows out of the country it isn't going to be pretty for rebuilding efforts.

About nuclear risk.....is a sort of fake from mass media..

Lot of nuclear plant automatically stop..and the is a little fire in a turbine room.

Nothing really dangerous.

Hope all can turn back to normality is little time..

Normally japanese people are good in case like this.

Good luck^^

The automatic shutdown of the reactor DID work right?

The last time Japan had an earthquake, I read that they have to shift the Nagoya reactor to another place because it is resting directly on a tectonic crack.

I imagine it won't be that great for them when they go spending that money in China for cement and steel.

Scram down automatically shut the reactor down( inserting carbon control rods) but since the fuel rods are still hot, so if coolant water leaks to critical level fuel rods will cause a melt down that may result in releasing radioactive material.

Depends on the industry, Sony and Toyota would be delighted for example. Actually, most corporations in Japan will be, since a huge chunk of their profits comes from exports. People will have some problems, but I don't think they spend so much in imported goods anyway. And certainly this is a short-term effect, so it shouldn't affect industries importing resources for processing.

By the way, this is probably one of the last opportunities for Kan's administration to regain some popularity by handling successfully the crisis.

Right now that is the only viable option since China often overproduce and has incredible surpluses.

The only worrying thing is that those assholes are manufacturing and supplying those stuff provide low quality goods (LQ cement is simply as more sand less other clay minerals - because adding more sand decreases cost) due to political tensions. Steel shouldn't be much of a problem since Japan has their own domestic manufacturers, but the raw materials tend to come from China.

But the thing is the only other place where Japan could get iron from is Australia, and according to live charts, the AUD/JPY is uptrending since last year, only to go in red today. It HAS to go below the point of 81.5 before there is any real discount in purchasing materials before it is worthwhile to switch to Australia as a favoured import destination of iron pellets.

And that energy crisis in Mideast isn't doing much for import costs. Technically speaking, my opinion is that the JPY has to rally up to USD-JPY = 75.xx (USD is the main currency, so the money has to flow right and USD has to lose value) before Japan can recover without going into deeper debt.

Hopefully the local private companies are willing to do more charitable work outside of the financial markets so all these data here are irrelevant.

Kan is at a crossroads now. Being an ex-finance minister and someone with financial knowledge, he has to appeal to the companies in the long-term and people in the short term (maybe medium term since people change their votes, but companies pull out from the country and never come back).

Pulling cash from the treasuries for disaster relief means that the investment money from the local companies (corporate taxes, government bonds, and state-private enterprise loans) are being thrown into saving infrastructure. The problem is, does he save the companies' infrastructure or the people infrastructure first?

There is one foolproof move he can make : restore power and water ASAP. Afterwards, the cash-assist problems are going to get a little messier - I would suggest he hit these stuff in the order of importance : People/Citizen > State-owned enterprises > Asian Enterprises > US Enterprises > European Enterprises (Germany > Britain > France). By securing the state-owned enterprises after saving his people, he should get more local votes to keep him in place, thus stabilising the political arena. The Asian enterprises should help keep material import costs low, so export costs will go down and exports will increase.

After that, the few problems with regards to currency should fix themselves and allow an appreciation for the yen for the rest of this year and into next - from then which new foreign investment should roll in.

Did you mean Sendai? Jiji Press is reporting it. (Edit: It's now being reported on official TV news channels)

The body count on this is going to be sizeable. People just didn't have enough time to avoid the first wave of the tsunami.

They are still having tsunami warnings on the TV ordering everyone on the coast to evacuate. Pretty scary stuff.

なんまいだ、なんまいだ, Rest in Peace.

It is fairly chilly in Tohoku region at this time of year right?

It's amazing how the casters keep up with all the people who are injured or passed away and continously update it NATIONWIDE

Yea, Fuji TV just talked about the hundreds drowned, they still don't know why this number is so high they say.
