Wow is that really Horie Yui? I'm too used to hearing her as Naru (Love Hina), Kotori (Da Capo), Yume (Da Capo II), Eri (School Rumble), and Uguu.

Wow I just realized that I understood almost 90% of what was being said... *squeals like a girl*

Seems that I'm starting to know japanese! Hooray!

And also, Riki sounds way better here than in the novel.

Hmm, a good stretch for Hochan - I wouldn't have pegged that as her.

This is the first time I hear Horie Yui-san's male-style voice. In fact, I am never worried about how Riki's voice would be since she used to voice many character anyway. A good one anyway

But I'm still used to Riki's voice of Tomoe-san so it might take sometimes to get familiar with new one.

That's not really surprising since Horie has close to no role for any male role (no, Otoboku doesn't count...).
To be honest, her deep voice was quite characteristic so it was a dead give away to me, but at least it is better than I would have imagined.

Horie-san's boyish voice isn't bad - actually, think I prefer this less feminine version although XD

Agree with this. I'm gonna miss Tamiyasu's (girly) "Kyousuke!!!"

As I expected, her voice for Riki sounds similar to the voice she used for Otoboku's Mizuho.

I am satisfied with how she handles his voice because Riki now sounds a bit more appropriate for his age compared to the much more boyish voice he had in the VN.

I actually really dislike this voice, it's too recognizably female to me. Least the VN Riki sounded boyish.

More boyish than the VN, but it'll take time to get used to. I need to hear the voice while seeing Riki talking.

Hocchan will now have been both the female lead and the male lead in KEY anime. In different anime (ten years apart, if one recalls that Kanon first arrived on TV in 2002).

If this is supposed to be a guy's voice, and better than what it was in the VN, how bad was it there, then?

My first impression, upon hearing that voice is "This is supposed to be a guy? He sounds a lot like a girl to me!"

There seems to be some sort of confusion going around about the term boyish here. When I mentioned "much more boyish in the VN", I was referring to Riki sounding like a young male who had not yet gone through puberty (in short, a boy) because of his original high-pitched voice.

Yui Horie's lower-pitched take on his voice sounds like an improvement to me over the original when you consider that Riki is supposed to be a guy already in high school.

Maybe others meant to say masculine instead of boyish.

I personally found Riki's voice to be quite girlish for a loooong time in the VN. Actually, I always thought it was girlish. I just got accustomed to it.

No I understood what you were saying full well. I too thought Riki sounded like a pre puberty male in the VN. That's why I said at least he sounded "boyish."

In this case, I think the VAing sounds completely female to me so it bothers me. I rather have the old voice.

As someone who liked his VN voice, I can say Horie has done a great job
