Ilidsor probably has the right approach in just fanwanking it away. I'll just say this attack was different somehow.

That's hard to answer without spoilers. Let's just say it depends on whether he enjoys killing. You have a lot to lose from having to kill thousands of girls, starting with your sanity.
You'd think so, yet I've seen that happen plenty of times in anime. People in Saint Seiya Omega are currently trying to take down the main character precisely because he's killed a god. Some people would go to any length to gain fame. People going after Accelerator now are already completely out of his league, they wouldn't care get if he got so strong he couldn't even be called level 5 anymore. All that matters to them is that he's at the top.

And as someone else said, she was under a lot of stress + anger. So I doubt she had much time to think rationally anyway.

She's already seen her Iron sand attack being repelled by someone who she can only assume is Level 5 or below and I don't think it takes any degree of rationality to be not be surprised at something. The problem though with saying that it's just about the stress is that it undermines what the scene was trying to achieve in the first place. Misaka being surprised at Accelerator repelling the Iron sand was meant to be an indication to the audience of how strong Accelerator is. It's a very obvious narrative device: The aim is that in making the POV character surprised, it's a cue that the audience is meant to be as well, so the aim is actually for the audience to be surprised via Misaka. And Misaka's surprise has to be genuine, otherwise there's no reason for the audience's surprise to be genuine. So now in explaining one question we've only raised another. I prefer my theory in that it was just different than the one she tried on Touma.

That's what I loved. For all her "Who do I think I am?" or "I am a level 5" boasting, she couldn't even land a blow on a fellow level 5. Quote:
Guy wanted some quality entertainment from Misaka. Unfortunately she failed to deliver. |

It had to be stronger because Misaka was in berserker rage mode this episode. She definitely had the intent to kill and wasn't holding back, unlike with Preacher Boy. I don't know if she ever had wanted to kill someone with her powers before, but it seemed pretty clear this time around.
EDIT: Saten and gang are crazy enough to openly oppose Accel simply because he hurt their friend (and none of them are even lvl 5), so that may be a reason Misaka kept the truth from them. |

Yeah it was probably the rage although she must not have realised she was capable of that much power until now. Or maybe it wasn't just killing intent and she was consciously holding back against Touma as well.
