The first one I was expecting super sad show and in the end it was happier then I was expecting. Second season I have feeling that this will be sadder then the first one and with more death, I don't why when I watch the first show it kinda creeps me out.

First season of Gunslinger Girl is one of those series that have made me cry, and I kind of wish that second season will do the same. I have read the manga up to the volume 4, (volume 5 will be out September 30), and it indeed looks pretty cruel.

How cruel is the manga? Is it cruel enough to make you depress for a week?

im exctatic about the release like any other GSG fan, but on the other hand, the first season had such a perfect ending.

My only wish is that they will have a 26 episode run this time round since they manage to squeeze 13 epsiode from just 2 single volumes of manga.

We have Vol 3-8 to, enough material and beyond now IMO.

this is seriously awesome!

i cannot wait for this!

triela versus pinnochio!!!

you know, they can do it if they want. it will be like Black Lagoon second season. those little kids in there were as brutal as could be and they didn't realy shy away from the gruesomeness of the manga.

i hope this is the same (mostly because the shocking brutatilty is part of what makes the later manga so emotional).

I guess this means we'll get to see Petrushka and Beatrice?

Since the middle of volume six, the focus has shifted onto the newest Fratello. About half of volume seven focuses on them, and all of volume eight is about them. Volume for me was particularly depressing, but that was of the romantic angst type, and didn't involve any of the girls.

To be honest, I don't like how the direction the story has taken. It seems as though the author has run out of ideas or, like Conan Doyle, gotten tired of the original girls, and decided to strike out on a new one.

I can't wait. This was a wonderfully, yet tragically, told story. I'm happy it's confirmed now.

Yup, and according to ANN, it looks like we only have to wait until spring:

They better make 26 episodes long.

If the new season covers up to the conclusion of the Pinocchio arc, probably not. The Petrushka arc has been going on for a long time now, but as of the latest tankoubon there's no end in sight, so I don't think they'll feel comfortable including it.

Season 1 was what, 12 episodes? It covered the contents of volumes 1 and 2 nicely, plus a little original content and repetition between episode 1 and 2. There were 11 manga chapters in volumes 1 and 2.

The Pinocchio starts right at the beginning of volume 3 and ends at volume 5. That's three volumes. Volume 3 has six chapters, the first one is not full length, more like a small intermission. The next three chapters could fit into two, maybe even one episode because breaking those linked chapters up would upset the flow unnaturally. So, volume 3 gives 3-4 episodes, volume 4 gives 5, volume 5 is kind of hard to estimate, judging by it's contents, but say 4. Add it together and it looks like another compact 12/13 episode series.

That's okay though, because season 2 will surely have the following:
*Triela's back story, the most graphic and arguably most tragic.
*The most wicked, evenly-matched action scenes thus far, starring Triela. My grade on season II may well depend on how well they portray "The Fight," as it is the most gruesome one to date in the story.
*More Triela besides that; a full third of the chapters covered in season 2 are feature her *Fist pump*
*Heavy machine guns. Not your dinky SMG.

Won't be surprised if by the end of the season people take to calling GSG2 the Triela season. For those fortunate enough to have not read the manga, avoid the scans and spoilers with all you've got.

One word:

YES! Having just picked up Volume 4 I'm psyched, especially if they're animated the Pinnochio arc. I also hope they get into Triela's background.

I've been a fan of this series, but with the lack of knowledge regarding it (especially since I don't own all the manga volumes) should I go and watch season 2?

BTW more on Triela, please.

If you watched season 1 you'll be fine for season 2. As I said, if you haven't read the manga, it's best if you don't spoil yourself in order to take full advantage of season two's developments, which are quite intense.

Hope they take out those stupid borders on the top and bottom of the screen...

Otherwise, good news.

ah, alright then. And, yes, I've watched Season 1 (which was quite slow IMO, but still packed quite a punch. The only thing I wanted to complain was Claes' attitude toward the end of the season )

The DVDs don't have those, at least not the Funi ones. Might have been a fansub group thing, since I know what you're talking about.
