Those were beautiful! Really great finds!

Been listening to Metal since about 2006, it was Nightwish and Mors Principium Est that got me into the genre. My all time favourite band to this day is still Mors Principium Est although I also like listening to bands like Blood Stain Child, Silent Descent, Midnight Realm, Disarmonia Mundi, Dreamshade & Elysian.

Spoiler for My favs:

Thought I'd put this here too, not too sure what to think of it...
Spoiler for Metal + Super Kawaii:

Ohhh. Thanks for sharing this one. I love it.

I recently found a band called Latitudes, and I'm not exactly sure what genre they really fit in, but listings have been telling me they're "Sludge Metal".

Can anyone tell me about any bands similar to these?
If you want something similar to Nightwish, try out Epica. I heard from a friend of mine that they're both pretty similar.

You seem to enjoy power and symphonic metal bands. Try those:

Kamelot: best symphonic band there is, and best band, period.
Blind Guardian: best power metal there is
Hammerfall: pretty much the definition of power metal
Stratovarius: the inspirational fathers of Sonata Arctica

Also, if you like Fozzy, you may appreciate the US approach to power metal which is very much inspired by traditional heavy metal. The obvious choice for this kind of subgenre would be Iced Earth, of course.

Yes definitely agree for Kamelot. They're pretty much the gateway for symphonic metal. They have a new album that'll release in October 30th called Silverthorn.
This is one of their new songs in their upcoming album. The new vocalist sounds very much like Roy Khan.

And from what I've heard, CM fans also like Seventh Wonder, the band Kamelot's new vocalist Tommy Karevik is also a part of. They're also prog and pretty awesome. They're prog, but I like them a lot even though I'm more of a symphonic/power fan.

Also, SW really needs to be more well-known

Ugh, I'm so pumped for Silverthorn, Tommy's sounding great.

Some of that is just due to what is considered "hard rock" or "metal" over the decades. After all, Jerry Lee Lewis is rock'n'roll but today's listener would drop him into their "country" bucket. And I saw Joan Jett listed as "punk" the other day... derrrrr, really?

When I first heard Wolfmother, my reaction was "neat, someone is doing hard rock again" .... but I see the group is labeled as "metal" in many listings.

Labeling genre and sub-genre just gets stupid some days

But seriously, my current favorites are Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Coal Chamber, Children Of Bodem, iced earth, hammerfall, slayer, devildriver, death, enthroned, and trivium.

I'd say power metal or just metal.

This is a really nice rendition of Kamelot's Season's End by Tommy. I normally don't listen to metal ballads much but I like this so much!

Recently found these guys. Superb fusion of synths and djent-y metal. Singing is... Meh. But I just can't ignore the instrumentals of it all.

Major news today! Singer Anette Olzon and Nightwish part ways.

Source.

Somehow this news makes me happy, simply because I think having Anette as a vocalist forces the band into a musical direction, that I personally don't really enjoy. Any opinions on the matter, folks?

So Nightwish records one album with Anette, and then she's gone, and they'd already lost Tarja . As stated, it sounds like Nightwish is going into troubled times. And while there are plenty of bands that manage to recover after loosing a singer (or any other major band member), they're never the same. Makes me wonder what's going to happen with Nightwish next.
