Did you try the L or R buttons?

EDIT: Try re-installing your controller. I have a Vista, so I don't know if this particular method will work for you, but it's better than nothing. I did it by: 1) Plugging in my controller and waiting for a few minutes for it to install on the computer. 2) Went to Start Menu-->Control Panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Game Controllers. 3) Clicked 'Set up USB game controllers' 4) You should see 'Ps3 Gamepad' there. If not, then the controller must not have installed properly. 5) Click Properties and click the 'Test' tab. Test out the controller. Point of View Hat is the directional buttons test. A red dot should appear if the directional buttons are working. 6) Click the 'Settings' tab and click 'Reset to default'. Try using the controls again later.

Are special attacks seriously always hard to use? I'm using my PS3 controller, and I assume the left analog stick (which I use to move) is what I use to start the special attack, and I always do what I'm supposed to do... but it never seems to work. I have enough SP too.

Heres how I have it set up

X = Light attack
O = Medium attack
Triangle = Heavy Attack
Square = Change Character
L2 = Grab
R3 = Meta
R1 = Taunt
L1 = I don't know what its called, but it seems to do the same as O....

Also, does Shannon remind anyone else of Mr. Game and Watch from Smash Brothers? Always using weird things to attack other people.

The PS3 controllers isn't exactly optimized for fighting games even if it is better than the 360 one.
I bought myself a Logitech Dual Action pad, similar to a ps2/3 controller, much better D-pad.

On another note: i just now realized you can dash-cancel in this game...

To help people s till stuck on getting a PS3 controller to work...

Follow these instructions on getting the drivers installed and whatnot.

Then use either Xpadder or Joy2Key to map the left analog stick to the keyboard arrow keys.

I have my controllers set up just like Tjfarmer... L1 is Light + Medium... used to activate SP supers. e.g. With Battler, ↓↙ ← + SP = Rapturous Sommelier Time... use it in training against Kanon for the lols

With the ps3 controller, you actually use the analog stick to move the player. I'm looking for a way to use the pad instead of the stick. Any ideas? It seems that windows sees the pad as 4 others bottons.

Ho shit, Rena's name is on there.

Totally confirms that she and Bern were originally gonna be playable.

Hope we see 'em in a patch or sequal.

It's quite obvious they're gonna be in sooner or later,
they wouldn't have left the two middle coffins in if they wouldn't be
since Bern was discovered by forcing the game to highlight the top coffin.

I'd love if Rena made it in! I'd also really like it if more characters *coughRikacoughHanyuucough* made it in as well. Though, isn't it possible that Rena's name was just included for testing purposes or something?

I hope not, I do want Rena and the other Higurashi characters included... but with nothing at all being confirmed on whether or not it's a crossover, I'm a little doubtful on Rena's inclusion...

True.
While Bern was actually found by forcing the game to highlight the upper middle coffin,
not to mention she already has a fancy portrait and there was a stance sprite found within the game files.
All we got for Rena right now is her name, since she wasn't found by highlighting the lower coffin, I'm a bit suspicious if the name was left there on purpose.

I'm using only one analog stick on my ps3 controller to move around, do I need the other one to perform special attacks?

I sorta doubt there'd be more than Rena. I'd say Rena's inclusion would've been more along the lines of a "guest character". Characters that are included but have no tie-in to the canonical universe. Like how Darth Vader, Yoda and Starkiller were characters in Soul Calibur IV or how Kratos will be in the PS3 version of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game.

Though they are both series' made by the same fella, and since Ryukishi has the rights behind all the Umineko AND Higurashi characters, he could throw in more I s'pose.

I think they have more than enough characters to work with in Umineko, I'd like to see those first, it's not like I hate Higurashi or anything.

I set mine up to Square=Light, Triangle=Med, Circle=Heavy, Cross=Touch, R1=SP, R2=Throw, L1=Meta.

I'll probably grind a bit in Arcade mode to see what's there to unlock.

The only "confusing" thing about the layout of X = Light, and Triangle = Heavy is that it's "backwards" from Ronove's auto-counter move.

↓↙ ← + Heavy = auto-counter low attack
↓↙ ← + Light = auto-counter high attack

I get it mixed in up the heat of battle and get whooped >_>

Bottom [#10] was Bernkastel. Top [#03] is unknown, lookin' like Rena I guess.

I guess Rena getting added could be like how Ryougi Shiki was added to Melty Blood. Still I think it would be a bit soon to make her come right after Bernkastel. There is still so much potential for Umineko charactes to be added in. But maybe they wanna up the cast size while still leaving a significant chunk of Umineko characters for a sequel in which case I guess they could use Higurashi characters as a filler.
