The Black Rock Shooter game should also be announced sometime this month. Image Epoch will be holding a press conference in November announcing several titles, and the JRPG branding logo on the site associated with the game matches the logo and branding the Image Epoch registered earlier this year.

My guess is Good Smile Company is going to build up hype from the second half of November onwards leading up to the official retail release of the BRS anime on blu-ray and DVD in December, and will ride the hype all the way into 2011.

[UPDATE 11.14.10] – Today on his Twitter account, Goodsmile Company president Takanori Aki took a moment to write that their staff is very eager to produce an OVA sequel, however nothing has been confirmed at this moment.

Yesterday’s announcement at Anime Festival Asia (AFA X) was interpreted as an official announcement by several attendees and the Twitter community.

Even with this disappointing development, it still seems likely that B★RS2 will be produced. Maybe now may have not been the right time to reveal too much. We’ll keep you posted.

And the wait continues.

Details on Black Rock Shooter THE GAME:

Black Rock Shooter The Game is being directed by Kazuya Niinou (Trauma Center, Etrian Odyssey, Last Ranker) and has a scenario by Kazushige Nojima (Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2). The game is set in 2051 following an alien invasion that wiped out pretty much all of humans -- except for the 12 people who rise up and strike back against the attackers! The game is said to combine RPG, STG and TPS genres. A PSP release is set for summer at ¥6,279.

I can count 14 characters from the Huke BRS roster.
I wonder which ones will be included.

UPDATE: Seems that UFOTABLE will do the animation on some parts.
UPDATE: Cast names confirmed include Maaya Sakamoto, Tomokazu Sugita and Hiroshi Kamiya, all three being very well-known seiyuu.

An RPG with third-person shooter elements? Sounds unique and definetly something to check out.

Apocalypse by aliens isn't really a new scenario, but I guess it depends on how it's pulled off, and having a writer behind the more popular Square Enix series' working on it is a pretty good guy to choose I'd feel.~

Good to know it's on PSP now too. If I'm convinced to get it it won't be that difficult to import and play.~

Judging from how Good Smile Company has been handling Black Rock Shooter, I think there is a very good chance the PSP game will have full English text options. The trailer for the game at the Imageepoch conference was also the only game trailer to be subtitled in English.

Remember, 12 human survivors does not mean the game will only have 12 characters. There are 12 survivors on Earth, and the planet was invaded by 7 Apostles from another planet, who brought with them a huge mecha army. I think they're going to get a lot of mileage out of huke's artwork and designs in the game.

All in all it's a pretty impressive package for ¥4000. The stop-motion movie is very cool - it's "only" about 20 seconds long, but after watching the making-of video that comes with it you can see why it took them seven days to shoot those 20 seconds (and because it was made in Hollywood, maybe two thirds of the interviews are in English with Japanese subs).

Also, the background song that plays during the movie and credits has completely burrowed its way inside my head. Unless Hahn can really hit the high notes then he's only responsible for the remix and not the vocals - but dammit, I wants it, even if it is(?) Hatsune Miku.

So yeah, satisfied customer here. Let's hope we see more R2-quality releases that are as gaijin-friendly as this baby.
