Fansub group release servers/IRC/etc

I was wondering where fansubs groups host their servers? I done some research and there seem to be lots of options available. There are dedicated servers, and then then there are specific hosting for seeding and XDCC etc.

Also the location of such servers? It will be have to be offshore, because in America there are tight copyright laws etc. I guess Russia /Netherlands?

Anyway... im rambling.

I guess I want to know what people would recommend for fansub group servers.

Right now rizon is the most popular server used by fansubbers as far as anime is concerned. You can actually find group information and which server is hosting the channel for a particular group in numerous sites. AnimeSuki's main site has pretty good up to date list as well.

Ah, you misunderstand me, perhaps I wasn't clear.

I don't mean IRC server, I mean dedicated server.

For example, THORA hosts their server with Ecatel (Netherlands).

Looks like I did, by a huge margin nonetheless. Oopsie.. I'm sure someone will be able to provide a much better answer considering how little knowledge I possess in that area. Sorry I couldn't be much of a help.

Most groups use VPS's rather than dedicated servers. Probably the most popular host is OVH, which runs out of Poland, England, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and a few other places. They also run the cheaper end of hosting under the name Kimsufi. Good bandwidth alotment and decent speed, and the cost is relatively low. Just a huge amount of servers already in use on rizon.

OVH says it runs out of UK, and that copyright laws apply.

And groups still get away with it?

If you want to host a BT tracker/web page that is not directly distributing warez somewhere that won't take it offline as soon as someone sends a vaguely hostile letter, I suggest PRQ.

What Fluff said. Definitely PRQ. Cheap, simple, and not intimidated by C&Ds.
