I watched a bit of episode 24 tonight and thought of an un-obvious coupling:
Takemoto and Yamada but I don't think it would have occurred to either of
them.

Still blows me away how good this series is.

I love H&C!!! def my fav... haha i was sooo shocked to see chapter L it felt like i just won the lottery... well... if only but definately awesome!! Chapter L is AWESOME!! just like the rest of the series!!! *sigh.... i want more...

No translation in sight ... though given the manga and anime's popularity, I'll be kind of shocked if someone doesn't pick it up (especially looking at does get through the pipes --- I never thought Tsukuyomi Moon Phase would be translated and yet here Tokyopop is doing it ... OTOH, still no sign of Mahoraba being translated for the english market).
My local import bookstore (http://www.kinokuniya.com/) keeps the Japanese version in stock (all the volumes) as the shopkeeper says its very popular with the college exchange students here.

Just got around to finishing this series on my new computer and I simply had to comment, it really does take a slice out of your life.

There's so many aspects of real life infused into this series (good and bad) that it's hard not to relate.

As for mangas, Shoujomagic has translated like the first volume or so. Not like that helps, since the anime series runs past the first volume in the first few episodes. But maybe if one gives Shoujomagic a LOT of encouragement, they'd put that project on top of their priority lists, since they have a crap load of on-going projects right now. -_^

That said, I found the anime special amusing, but not funny. This is because I was LMAO when I first read that part in the manga, and so the 'shock' value of the situation has already passed for me.

chapter L is like.. an additional episode. Actually there are 2 additional episodes. The other one will be out next month.

errr... my bad. please allow me rephrase that. It's not an "additional" series wherein it "continues" the anime. It's kind of like, a story that occured some time in the anime. For example, the first part and the basis of the Chapter L episode is on Chapter 4 of the manga.

Hey everyone, new guy here had to join because I just finished watching this series yesterday - watched 10 - 24 and L in a marathon - and have to talk about it.

Wow. What a devistating, true to life story! Painfully similar to some of my own frustations - professional and romantic - and what beautifully realized characters. And after reading the forum I'm now frustrated that there is more Manga but no English translations of it available.

There is so much more I'd like to comment on but it'd probably bore everyone. Needless to say, right now I'm just wishing I knew Japanese so I could pop over to Japan-town and catch up on these people's lives to date.

Just finished watching the series. Awesome. The way they combined drama and comedy, it is just purely awesome. This anime is easily in my all-time top 10.

Can anyone give me spoilers please from the manga for the afterlife of H&C anime? I'm really interested what happens after the anime ends...

Some of the one liners in that show are as funny as anything I've
heard anywhere.

Also, the two older professors who saw their younger selves in
Takemoto's projects and quest were great.

I really love this Anime, my personal "Anime of the year 2005"

And since the Manga is licensed by Tokyopop in Germany (and they are also trying to get the Anime) i will also get the Manga in the near Future.

Spoiler: I was rooting for Mayama and Yamada the entire time although at the end of the series I almost glad they didn't get together because that's just the way life is. I believe the next special is coming out 2/24/2006.

But hey, life still goes on, and one moves on as well. There's always that colleague of Mayama. ^_^ That said, I still wouldn't mind if Mayama finds out how much Yamada really means to him. Me <3 love triangles, and I wouldn't mind another one in addition to the Takemoto-Hagu-Morita triangle. As for mangas, Shoujomagic has translated like the first volume or so. Spoiler: I was sort of hoping Mayama would finally realize that he's always had feeling for Yamada; since I think he does but he's not viewing them the way he should. He felt so insecure when she ran off with Nomiya because he cares for her in ways neither she nor himself could imagine. /sigh You can't always get what you want As for manga translations, I'm waiting on Suzuka TT.

I learned here, among other things, that at the time of the story's beginning, Hanamoto Shuuji is "A little over 30 years old," which is much younger than the impression I recieved. Also (this is not news, but just for reference): Mayama: 21 Morita: 24 Ayu: 20 Takemoto:19 Hagumi: 18 Midori-chan: 4 What intrigued me the most were the panels addressing Rika, in which Midori-chan says. "... I suspect that these two (Rika and Shuuji) once had [a relationship] in the past..... call it a woman's intuition? Ah well, they are adults afterall, and its not unusual to have all sorts of phases..." Once more, this is the sort of microscopic reading-into-the-lines that used to go on, and thus intended only for those who've been there.

And after reading the forum I'm now frustrated that there is more Manga but no English translations of it available. Spoiler: The final episode really devistated me. Takemoto and Hagu, sick from worry, holding hands while asleep choked me up and his confession got me even more teary eyed. I'm pretty sure Hagu loves Takemoto. I think her tears were joyful relief. Unlike Morita, with whom she shares the bond of passionate creative genius (I loved their Art Slinging showdown after he returned), Takemoto is the one she really needs day to day in her life. If Morita isn't there she is fine, as long as both are working at their art. But if Takemoto isn't there, she slowly breaks down. She needs him by her or her world isn't right. Also, because of Takemoto's growth from the Journey, he is now a man who is able to take on the responsibilities that come from loving someone as special as Hagu. The areas she is poor in - like cooking - are the areas he has become good at. I thought it was an interesting thing to see that when she had her block when Morita was away, Takemoto believed Morita would know how to help her. But when Takemoto was away and she was going through a bad time, Morita thought Takemoto was who she needed. As for Morita, wow, he really got serious near the end didn't he? First counselling Yamada and showing there are others besides Mayama who worry and care about her, and then telling Mayama that he's causing her to grow weak. I suddenly started thinking that a Morita/Yamada pairing could work - he's never once targeted her for his punishing brand of attention, and she's strong enough to keep him in line. There is so much more I'd like to comment on but it'd probably bore everyone. Needless to say, right now I'm just wishing I knew Japanese so I could pop over to Japan-town and catch up on these people's lives to date.
